Does anyone have any info on Michael and Permelia Groat (age 66 & 63) listed in the 1850 census in Henrietta, Monroe Cty,NY?

They live with Jacob (30) and Nathaniel (19) and next store to William and Delany Groat (25 & 27).

All are born in NY. They don't appear in any other census.

Mrs Permelia Groat was baptized in 1843 at the Asbury Methodist Church and dropped in 1848.

Does anyone know where this family came from or went to? How they are related?Other Children?

THanks
Janet

Thankyou in advance.

Hello,

According to some info I got off of the 1901 census for Chatam, Kent County,: father was Michael, born Jan 1, 1851,mother was Eliza, born Dec 1, 1860, daughter, Rose born Aug 10/1885, Louis, born Aug 24, 1899. Also some info I was given by an old family friend of my mothers said that she remembered a brother by the name of William.
Have you checked out the family search at the Latter-Day Saints site? Just wondering if you have seen the info on William Groat married to Elizabeth Adams. Do you think we have a connection?

Hello! Unfortunately I have no information on any siblings of William Groat, though I expect he had brothers and sisters. I believe William is of African descent and that his father Michael was employed by a family by the name of Lewis. Could this be relevant? I am also anxious to learn more about William and his family. He was my GGG grnadfather. Good luck in your search and should you find any connection, please let me know. Susan.

Susan:
Hello, Louis was my grandfather, m. to Grace Lillian Mathews. There children are: Virginia Rose, Wilma-Jeanne,Eleanore, and son Lewis. Lewis is deceased, and so is my mother (Virginia.) If you would like to email me directly and we could compare notes, that would be great.

Hello, N! I'm almost certain there's a connection. I haven't checked the site you referred to, however I have recently been in contact with newfound family in Utah who has used a Latter Day Saints search facility over her 23 years of research. To my knowledge, her primary line of research was into the family that one of William's daughters (he had 10 daughters), Hannah, married into. She did list William and Elizabeth (Adams) Groat, but her documentation referred only to Michael as William's father...no wife's name or names of other children.

Are you descended from either Rose or Louis mentioned in your message?

Susan,Sharon and Stephanie,

If you're still out there I'ld love to hear from you. I missed the original message. My William Graot was born around 1825 supposedly in NY. You have a William Groat born in 1820 to Michael? That is just too odd. Seems to me there must be some connection. My William married Delaney ???? and lived in Genesee County,NY until he died around 1890. His father MIchael was born around 1784 and his mother Permelia born around 1787 both in NY according to the census. They were poor and illiterate - never owned land and very difficult to trace. William had brothers John born 1820 and Jacob born 1815 possibly Nathaniel born 1831.

Why do you think the family was from NC? I'm stuck so any rumors or anything would help. Jacob, Michaels son and my direct ancestor married a woman named Helen Maire Willison who may have been indentured in Canada for a while.

I'm sorry I didn't see this before. Please cantact me with any information you can share.

Thanks

Janet

I have a Permilia Groat born 23 November 1830 in Odelltown, Quebec, Canada. She married William Henry Manning. However, her parents were Preston Groat and Lydia Marsh. Preston's parents were William Groat, 1776-1813 and Lydia Huntington. I don't know if there is a connection, but the name, Permilia, seems unusual to me.
