Hi Andrew,
We are done with a slow first year in reno-ing the castle and it has been fun and trying at the same time. Found many "treasures" as the previous owners seemed to share the same desire to not throw things away. But some of the fun ones are a 1897 pennie wedged between the wall and the maple floor, a very old English wooden handled golf club (prob not S.P.'s) wooden marbles and other odd antiquities but the greatest one was when we took some maple flooring out of the coat closet to use in another area that needed matching we found a very artistic hand sketch of a profile on the paper subflooring. The paper subflooring also was stamped with S.P. Groat's business name all over it.
There is an internal cystern in the basement that has been filled in with years of trash and we haven't began the task of going thru it and really don't want to at this time.
Still really wanting to find pictures of the inside of the house (which was built in 1905-06 not 1908). Or any information about it's design or archetecture or period from anyone. We did find sketches of the John Groat castle in northern Scottland and it has some striking similarities but don't know any more. Any help or leads will be appreciated.
In general we are 70% done with the reno and are not in a hurry (time or money) as living in the house has given us a real appreciation as to the functionality to it's design especially in areas of light, air flow, flare, grandure and of course the "spirit" of the house and it's previous owners.
