Fiona, I am so pleased to find a "Groark" listing. You say your Patrick married 'Mid 1900's"---might you possibly mean 1800's?? I am looking for info on a Michael Groark from the area of Co. Mayo and that region of Ireland. He came to US in late 1800's and m. Catherine Colleran in Philadelphia around 1905. Michael is my husband's g-grandfather. Thanks for any info. Nina

Im looking for my family who left Ireland in 1906 on the Cambina Want to find out more about Irish family Jane Groark and children Norah,Thomas,John and Janie left for America from Queentown Cork Munster

Mary, I know nothing of a Jane Groark. We have several Thomas and Johns. Our family is from Co.Mayo in and around Swinford, with some scattered a bit farther away. Our Michael came to America in 1903, have not figured out when the others came. One would think with a name like Groark that we would be related in some way. Michael settled in Phila. and married Catherine Colleran there; and raised his children there. His brother Thomas and 2 sisters came over but do not know when or if that was all of them. Good luck. Nina, we're getting close! My grandmother (Kathleen), her 2 sisters (Mary & Josephine) & her brother (Tim) came over in c. 1926 with 2 uncles. One was a McLaughlin (maternal) , the other we believe was a Groark. My mother remembers an Aunt Catherine. They all setteled in Phila. My grandmother's parents, John & Mary (McLaughlin) Groarke (the "e" was dropped when they arrived in U.S.) died in 1920 & 1924 and are buried in the Aghamore Cemetary. They have a son who died in 1905 (John Thomas). My grandmother had 2 more brothers, John Thomas & Michael who remained in Ireland. This family was from Co. Mayo, Ballyhaunis, Mannin. Let me know, if this rings any bells. Thanks, Kelly

Kelly, Sorry, but right now I do not know of any McLaughin's but yet the name is familiar. Sow ill keep you in mind if I find out otherwise. Our Groark's lived around 29th and Allegeney Ave. and went to Corpus Christi church. They of course my in-laws, so doo not know all they know yet. Good luck, and keep me in mind too with what you find out about the Groarks. Thanks, Nina

Kelly
I have just started doing some research on my family and have come across this posting.
I appreciate that it is very old but just in case you occassionally come into the site to have a look I wanted to let you know of my connection
My grandfather Patrick Mcloughlin was the uncle to Michael Groarke who you mention in your post, Mike was a neighbour in Mannin and I knew him very well. His wife is still alive and living in the same house in Mannin.
He was a lovely man his brother JT also lived in the same village unfortunately they both are no longer with us.

Hi Collette, I'm glad you posted. My grandmother was Mike & JT's sister. She died within 6 weeks of Mike & another sister Josephine who lived here in the states. My grandmother, Kathleen came over here with 2 of her Uncles who were both McLoughlin's - her mother's brothers. My mom was over there in '74 for a wedding and again in the late 90's - I got pictures of the grave stones of some of the Groarke - crazy, but appreciated. I'll look up the Uncles who came here (I think one died in a car accident in the states) if you need any info on them. Thanks, Kelly

How lovely to hear from you.
I am now intrigued as I have just spoken to my Mother and she didnt know anything about her fathers brothers going to America. She thought he only had two brothers - both went to England and one was a policeman.
If you do have any information on them that would be great.
Kind Regards

Hi Collette,
Boy that is strange that my family doesn't know the McLoughlin's. My grandmother came over with her siblings: Mary & Tim and her Uncles John & Michael McLoughlin (they also had some children). Her sister Josephine follwed a few years later. John McLoughlin was married to Helen & they lived in West Philadelphia, PA. We have nothing on Michael. Of those two uncles she told us one had died in a car accident on a bridge here in the states. She has another uncle - Patrick McLoughlin - who lived in Ireland & passed 2/15/88. Patrick was married to Annie who died 09/18/87. Any of these sound familiar?
We never met any of the McLoughlin's (very odd). Of her siblings: Josie & Tim never married & Mary, I believe has 3 children.
I'll ask around the family about the McLoughlin's.
Take care for now, Kelly
