From the Constitution (Middletown, Ct) of May 25, 1853

DIED - Hiram Gritman, formerly of Litchfield, was drowned in Grand River, opposite the Canada shore, on the 31st March, by slipping from the plank, as he was landing from a steamboat. He was 32 years of age and leaves a wife and family.
