Hi:

The latest Hallock Genealogy update, called The 1992 Hallock Addendum, includes descendants of a couple called Richard Gritman (son of William) and Mary Polly Terry, on the basis that that Mary Polly was a child of Capt John Cleves/Cleaves Terry and Abigail Terry (both with same last name). A listing of several generations of Gritman descendants is included, based on that Polly Terry being a Hallock descendant.

I am questioning that connection because the Polly Terry who was baptized in Mattituck, Long Island, on 07/13/1788, as the daughter of John Cleaves and Abigail (Terry) Terry, was married to Henry Conklin on Jan 5, 1809, was referred to as his daughter Polly Conklin in John Cleaves Terry's 1823 will and was referred to as the half-sister of Benjamin King, son of Abigail Terry from her first husband, in his 1838 will as my "half-sister Polly, the wife of Henry Conklin".

There are web sites out that say they were married before she married Henry Conklin. But, the marriage records for her and Henry would have been expecetd to say Mrs Poly Gritman if a divorcee, and Poly Gritman, widow, if a widow; not Polly Terry.

I have no doubt that a William Gritman may have married a Polly Terry, but I would like to see what evidence there is that this Polly (Terry) Conklin, married to Henry Conklin from 1809 to (at least) 1838, (from age 21 to at least age 50) could have married William Gritman and had children.

Could there be another Polly Terry that was the wife of William Gritman?

Thanks for your support.
