Hi John,
I hope we can find a link but we shall see.
My Griffin family lore is that three Griffin brothers came from Ireland to the US. Also there may have been a name change like O'Griffin or something like that. Also handed down is that we should not look too deep as we may not like what we find.
My ancestor Isaac Wilson Griffin was born about 1800 in NC/Tnn. His wife was Elizabeth H.H.. We have never been able to find out \\what the H.H. stands for. Also been mentioned that she may have been a second wife. I.W. was also a cooper (barrel maker).
His son Newton Cokley/Coakley Griffin is my 3rd grteat grandfather. He and his dad and all show up in the 1850 Angelina County, Texas census under Griphean. It is them though the name is spelled wrong. The 1860 and 1870 census shows them in the Dallas Co.,Tx. census. I.W. and Elizabeth H.H. Griffin both died in the 1870's in Dallas Co.,Tx. and are buried there. The only other Griffin in Dallas Co.,Tx. at that time, that I have found was Thacker Vivian Griffin who died young.
I.W. and Elizabeth's known children were:
Newton Cokley
Jasper
Jacob Josephus
Mary
Martha
Unice
Melissa Texana
Viola (Andrew Jackson Viola) Griffin
Viola was the last born so I guess they went all out on her name!
I have more history on these siblings just nothing on anybody before Texas!
Well what do you think?
