Just wanted to get in touch with some others who share the same super-name as I do. I live in Lund, Sweden, but am now aware of the fact the many others have the same advantage of carrying the Great Gribbling name, and want to Get A Grip of you all. If you have any interesting views of life or THE name. We used to call ourselves "Persson" that is "Peter´s son" in swedish. It was changed in 1956. Do you now the ethymologic meaning of G. any of you?
Peaple let me now, then. Otherwise, you may certainly mail back anyway. Keep the contact! Kindly Johan G. may 10th 2000

As you see, my name is Gribling with one B.
I live in the Netherlands. There are many Griblings in this country.
My roots are in Germany, near Koblenz. In 1750 the name was Gribbeling or Kriebeling.
I'ame waiting for your next e-mail.

Thanks for being the first one to reply. Of course you are a Dutchman, where it´s at now.
I´ve heard of an artist called Frank G. who had some expo in Amsterdam. Where in Holland do you live? We must act quickly in order to get our name replaced on top of the lists!
The Swedish side of the name that I belong to was given to us by the "Department of Registration" in 1956, being one of many "made-up" names to choose from. They were probably unaware of the name existing in other countries. Way before the data age.
I´ve been to Assen for a Football Camp ´95.
The Netherlands is really neat. Have you went "northwards" yourself? Hope to hear from you. Good luck in the Euro 2000. Johan

This just in from Canada and the USA: The Gribbling name in my family, became Gribling and then Griblin. I am trying to sort all this out for a genealogy. Turns out in Europe, primarily France and Germany with some in Netherlands and Belgium. In these countries the name is found to variously be: Griblins, Kreibling, Greibling. A certain person has traced (I don't know how reliable this is) the first mention of the Gribling name to a document in Strasbourg (the village in Germany, not the French city) Germany in the 1300s. Researching with such creative spelling is a challenge I tell you. All the best fellow Gribling/Gribblings! GJ Gribling gribrelate@hotmail.com

Gloria good to see your name again. My daughter is trying to research the Gribling name. We got to my grand father Joseph Gribling married to Maria Meyer. The lived in Pfastatt Alsace-Lorraine Germany now France. Other town mentioned on a family list were Ecrienne and Bis Wattwiller. On the list his name was spelled Gribelin. It was Gribling on records of his passage to the US. Typos, misspellings or they just like to use different names.
My daughter has some of the dates and would be glad to email.
We have better luck with his wife,s side, but not in a straight line. Going thru diferent sur nammes switching from wife to husbands we got backs to Chretien Kos and Suisse somebody 1646. Do not know if date is birth, death or marriage. Now my wifes line is great it goes directly back to 1637 when Mathew Moulthroplsailed to Boston Mass. on the Hector. In 1638 he went to help found the Colony of New Haven Conneticut. Diana is now trying how she is related to Issac Hull Commander of the USS Constitution (Old Iron Sides)
