Karen,
I have just started my Grgurich search. My ggrandfather (Phillip Grgurich) was an immigrant from Croatia in 1917. I have heard from family members that he may have had a brother named Joseph that came over after him. Phillip Grgurich was married to Anna Spolfarich. They moved to Houghton County, Michigan in 1917 just a few months before my grandfather was born (Lewis William Grgurich) They lived in Painesdale. Phillip was a miner. Hope this helps. This is all I know about the Grgurich side of my family. If you could help me I would certainly appreciate it.

The only piece of info that I have is a copy of my grandfathers birth certificate that tells that his parents Phillip Grgurich and Anna Spojarlich were both born in Croatia, Living in Michigan, his occupation - miner. Oral history told me that they moved to the US in 1917 just 2 months before my grandfather was born. I had heard also about a brother (or some relaation) to Phillip Grgurich moved to US shortly after Phillip family did.

Kathy,

I too have the Grgurich name in my family line. It's very difficult to do research because of the many variations of the name that I find along the way.

My gggrandparents were Paul Grgurich and Katarine Komadini (sp?)from Croatia, possibly Lokve. They had 8 children that I'm aware of: Louise, Mitza, Jack, Stephan, Francesca (my ggrandmother)(1885-1918), Juliana (my step ggrandmother), Mary, and Paul.

Do know know when they came to states but I believe it was through Ellis Island. I know that at one time they lived in Calumet Michigan, as my gggrandmother is buried there. I believe when Katarine died that my ggrandfather returned to Croatia and died there.

I have a wonderful photo of the family taken in the old country before they came to the states.

The family also traveled to Montana, my ggrandfather was a miner and resided in Red Lodge Montana were my grandmother Frances Blazina and her sisters were born. The 1910 census shows that a William and Steve Gregorich lived with my ggrandparents Frank and Frances Blazina, both are listed as brother in laws.

I'd appreciate discussing any information you may have. I agree, the name is uncommon so there most likely is a link.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Terry

My great grandfather Matthew Grgurich came from Croatia, and moved through Ellis Island, the settled in Noveniger Mo.
There is a large Slavic area in St Louis you will find alot of Grgurich family there, As for me there are only 3 of us in the Marine Corps.

Thanks for the info. I have found what I believe to be the ship my grandfather came to America on via the Ellis Island web site, which is fascinating. I need to find out what the names are of his brothers/sisters and search them also.

I too have been tracing the Grguric surname and have located my line back to a small village called Gornji kosinj in Lika region of Croatia. The surname Spoljaric also occurs and is very common, in fact it is my grandmother's maiden name. My ancestors left this village for Slavonia region about the end of WW1 (1918/1919) as the conditions were bad in the mountainous Lika area. This would correspond to the time your ancestors left for the USA. Hope this information helps.
