Hello,
I believe the Grewer's you wrote of are my relative. Mathias Grewer was my great grandfather. Along with the children you mention was also a daughter, Agnes, who was my father's mother. Christina's last name was Weiler. My father was very close with his grandfather, Mathias. (Matt)
Best Regards,
Agnes

I know you posted your message on an article on the Grewer family a while ago, but if it's still available, I'm interested. I just found a probable Grewer connection- Annie Grewer, prob of Glenisla Angus Scotland. She m Alexander Fenton, and was mother to Ellen or Helen Fenton, b 24 July 1832. Ellen married John Bremner in Canada. She died in Boston MA 8 December 1906. I don't have any further info on the Grewer line at this point.

Hi David, I have an Alfred Grewer, born in Driffield, County of Yorkshire. He was married in 1898 at St. Anne's by the Sea. We thought maybe he may have had relatives there. His wife, Mary Agnes Milburn, was born in Scotland. Alfred's father was William Francis Grewer. Do you have any connections? Thanks a lot!!!!! Liz

Yes, this family tree is very thinly branched!

I am descended from Nicholas GREWER, who came to Philadelphia from Alsace-Lorraine in 1840. He had two sons, Adolph and Edward. Adolph lived in Philadelphia and had one daughter that I know about. Edward had 3 sons, Gurney, Lyell and Zell. Lyell had one son, who had one son, who had one son.

All three sons lived and died in the Philadelphia area. The SSDI records seem to indicate a Grewer family living in Ilinois in the 1840s and the 1880s, but they are no relation.

Nicholas lived for 30+ years in Delaware (1856-1887), and census records of the time show 2 other Grewer families living there.

I would like to try to find out where in the Alsatian region Nicholas came from. Good luck in your quest.

Hello- I'm the Stephanie Grewer that you posted a reply to. There really isn't much I can give you, since the two of us seem to be in a similar situation (or rather, my father is). However, there seems to be an uncanny pattern surrounding a man that we are researching right now. We hope to have completed our research soon, and will let you know if anything turns up. Do you know the high school, and town that your mother lived in? The one we are researching had parents in Monrovia around that time. There are very few other Grewer's in Southern California, especially at that time, that we have been able to loacate. -Stephanie Ann Grewer

Hello anyone out there with knowledge of the Grewer line. My Grandfather was one Terry Grewer whom I've never met, and who wasn't very responsive to phone requests for information. I have no knowledge of my family history whatsoever (at least, not on this side). Have been tracing other Grewers through the internet, but can't seem to figure out which of them I'm connected to. Half seem to have come from Germany, with some living in England. There is even a Scottish branch. The one place that I seem unable to locate any of us in is here in the US- at least no one who cares to speak with me. If anyone has any info, access to trees, or any knowledge of Terry Grewer's ancestry, please let me know Thanks!

hello, I was once a Grewer. I was adopted at a very young age. I believe my father to be a Grewer, as I was born Robert Lee Grewer in July 1956. I also believe that he was not told by my mother that he was going to be a father. Her name is Margo Ann Peterson. They were dating in High school. Any info to my past would be great. I'm seeking for more information on my past for my children.

I think your information is help to me, at least a conection maybe. I was told I was born in Duarte. But then on a letter signed by my birth mother, it stated I was born in Covina. Which is all in the one area. In the letter it states that the father was not told about me, because my birth mothers family requested it that way. They also stated that it was a rather small town that they were from. My adopted mother gave me the letter to help me solve some questions. What I do know is the father was 17 and a junior in 1955 (Spring)when they met. His senior year in late fall my mother became pregnant. She left school in May 1956. I was born in July 1956. She was returning to school as a senior.

You are more of the northern California Grewers. The Grewers that I am researching came from North Dakota and from Germany. Grewer can be Scottish or German as you can see by listing on the Internet. Thanks for responding. These Grewers I am reseching did live in Monrovia at one time. They are deceased.
Name origin

Did you know that Grewer is a sept of Clan Drummond? Some are with Clan MacGregor.
Maybe some with Clan Fraser. All seem to be in top half of Scotland, although I thought I found one branch of the Drummond Clan in the Southern part of Scotland, but I cannot locate it. Get ahold of a Clan Map in some
library! I hope this helps you with your
search. Janet Gall

Re: Grewer name

My great-grandmother was of the GREWAR clan--different spelling, yes, but I believe it's the same family. They were from Glasgow, Scotland. From everything I've read, the name is originally from Scotland, and is a sept of various clans, such as Fraser, Drummond, MacGregor... My great grandmother's name was Robina Wilson Grewar, daughter of Adam Grewar, and granddaughter of Alexander Grewar. Robina was born March 26, 1884. If anyone comes across this spelling of the name, please let me know!
