Surnames: Gregoire, Duteau dit Grandpre, Duteau, Grandpre, Billadeau, Betourne, Casaubon dit Didier
Hi, I am a descendant of Hercule-Alexis, Gregoire Gregoire's brother, Note in the siblings that there is Alexis b. 1812(died at less than a yr. old and Hercule- Alexis b.1813) -total of 11 siblings for Gregoire Gregoire.

I agree that all the Marie and Joseph's can get to be confusing, but wait til we try and do the present and future generations who can now keep either the mother or father family name in Quebec so sibling will have one or the other!!! .
Gregoire is still occasionally used here in Quebec a first name and in fact it is coming back in fashion as are other old first names we haven't used in nearly 100 years!

For Gregoire Gregoire I have as his birth date Sept 20 1819 St.Cuthbert m. Sophie Duteau dit Grandpre b.April 1827 d March 29 1911, married July 11 1843,( St.cuthbert ,to be confirmed) her father Joseph GrandPre, mother Angeline Duteau
Children:
Victor b July 09 1857 Ste Anne Kankakee Il d. Dec 17 1890 in Kankakee m Louise Billadeau b 1859 d 1933 children: Leah m Alfred Betourne
Marie Malvina Caroline b. May 08 1861
Emilie b. Aug 2 1862 Beaverville Iroquois Il
Marie Rosalie b May 27 1865

The Duteau dit Grandpre and Casaubon dit Didier appear to be interlinking family in the previous generation/region in the st.Cuthbert area. Also note that Sophie parents use Grandpre and the other Duteau, they are probably 2nd or 3rd cousins,( to be confirmed) The use of double family name was stopped at the conquest by the English, so you sometimes have some sibling using one or the other later causing us to think of them as separate families until you go back in the generations. It was done to simply the task of the english figuring out who was who or even apparently the parish priest would ask some family to use one or the other as they got confused in the parish records, that was the case in St. Cuthbert...
