Thanks Gayle.
We are in Australia which is where most of the descendants of Jane live today. My ggg grandmother, Jane Greer was convicted and transported to the Colony of New South Wales in 1837 from Armagh, Ireland onboard 'Sir Charles Forbes'. On her convict papers it says she was native of Glasgow, Scotland.
The only mention I have found anywhere of her parents names is on her death certificate. Mother: Martha Lauder and father: Ralph Greer. Please note that none of Jane's children or grandchildren were named Ralph, however Martha's the name of Jane's 6th daughter.
I live in hope that someone has 'lost' a Jane Elizabeth Greer born about 1820 in Scotland and for what ever reasons was working as a Child's Maid in Armagh Co, Ireland in 1837.
The only other clues that I have are:
Jane's religion was noted as Roman Catholic
An annotation of Jane's convict record says that Jane's cousin, Samuel Moffatt (sic) was convicted in Co Down and also transported to New South Wales. Samuel is said to be a native of Ayrshire, Scotland and protestant religion.
I have traced Samuel's movements up to his death in The Colony and it appears Samuel and Jane did not stay in contact and lived many miles apart.
The FB group is great and enjoyed the article on Nialls. Our Dalton Y DNA has that same marker.
