Re Roseann Vage and William Grealey. William I believe was my great, great grandfather. Roseann Vage was always a bit of a mystery, we believe that she was originally from the Basque region in France. I too would be extremely interested in any information you have on the Grealey side of the family.
Any information would be much appreciated.

I have a copy of the marriage certificate for William and Roseann and also information about their children.
William Grealey was the youngest of four children, the others being Isaac, stephen and David.
My interest is in David Grealey who 'adopted' my grandmother.
Can we exchange information, please?

My email address is rosieh@fsmail.net. I will check things out here, because given your information my understanding of William and Roseann seems a bit unclear. My father ( Norman Grealey) sadly passed away 3 years ago, but I will retrieve any paper information I can. But I do know for sure that both William Grealey and Roseann Vage feature, and also a Jacob Grealey.

Best Wishes

Hi, I am researching my husband's family tree - The Boyles. The Vage family and The Boyle family are linked by marriage in 1910. I have traced the family back to Ayrshire and Jacob Vage. I wonder if the Roseann Vage you mention might be the granddaughter of Jacob. Her parents were Robert Vage and Janet Rae (his 2nd wife).

Happy to share information with you.

Hi,

Just read your message....sorry for the delay, it's been a while since I looked on here. The only Jacob I know of was my great grandfather who was the son of Roseann and William ( Roseann's parents are def the same one's I've come up with but haven't gone beyond that yet, so it may be that her grandfather was also Jacob)
Regards

Hi Rosie,

Here is the information I have found about the Roseann Vage in my tree.
Born 13th September 1864, in Glasgow. She died in 1933. Her birth mother was Sarah Farrell, born 1831, it is likely she died shortly after Roseann was born. Her father is Robert Vage, born 1833, Newton on Ayr. Janet Rae is listed on a census report living with the family and seems to have become step-mother for the Roseann and her 2 brothers (William and Robert), 1 sister (Margaret). She shows up later as Janet Vage however I have not yet found a marriage cerficate for Janet and Robert. Robert and Janet have a son Peter (1868-1871).
Roseanne I believe was married twice - her first marriage was to William Grealey. The only child I have evidence for is Roseann Grealey (1894-1959) She married again in 1917 to Charles Meechan.
Her dad, Robert Vage had 4 siblings (Sarah 1830-1833; Margaret 1832 - ?; William 1835 - ?; I haven't found a name for the 4th as the record found states Child Vage, died 1839 aged 6). His parents were Jacob Vage (1776-1846) and Margaret Lyons (1810-1855). Quite an age difference. I have not found out where Jacob came from, only that he was a seaman at some point. Vage as a name seems to have 2 sources Scandanavian and Basque.
Hope this is of interest to you.
Cheers
Reeni
