A common language was a must in the old days. What was the language spoken by your ancestor?
If your LEVKANIC^ ancestor was from Zemplen megye/Zemplin region than your GERBA ancestor would have been from the same area.
Roza GERBA arr. in 1911 from Laborczsog ( Stranany now part of Michalovce, SK)

GERBA does list in Michalovce's phone book.

I have a Luban (Joseph) Grba coming into America in 1902. He had previously married Sava ?, and moved to Illinois. Does this correspond to any of your research?

I do not recognize first name Luban and Sava as being used in Slovak Republic. What was language spoken by your ancestor?

Grba, Sava 17 1892 1909 arrived NY [Ellis Island]
I feel like your research will be in former Yugoslavia. You do need to know a precise place of birth of your ancestor to proceed with the research.

Luban immigrated from Yugoslavia. He arrived in the U.S. on 14 May 1903 in Baltimore, Maryland. His immigration record said that he lived in Hungary, was Croatian, and his last place of residence was Grubnisno Polje. On his war enrollment form (in the U.S.), it said that he was born in Grubisno Polje. His wife, Sava came here from Yugoslavia as well. She arrived in New York, New York on 25 Mar 1905. Her immigration record stated that she lived in Hungary, was Croatian, and last lived in a town that was illegible to me, but looked like Zolinei (the first letter may have been a Q, and the fifth a u). Luban changed his name to Joseph, and Sava changed her name to Elizabeth. Where can I go for Yugoslavian records, and what may the town (Zolinei?) actually be?

Thanks again!

I do not believe that Sava came in through Ellis Island. I could not find her coming through Ellis Island, but there must have been another port open. If it is not former Yugoslavia, what is your expertise?

Sava could have come thru Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia or Canada's port. I do not have a subscription to Ancestry so can not help you in locating her manifest.

My "expertise" more former Czechoslovakia - Slovak Republic.

Here is the immigration record. I was wondering if you could decipher the results for Sava Grba (she is near the bottom of the record), as I was not able to very well. Thanks!
