DNA has determined our Grants are the same line as the Chiefs of Grant. Please check the list below.There are so many missing links. If you familiar with, or members of, these families, I would love to hear from you! I have a lot of information to share, including my family tree just displayed on this site. Donald Grant of Inverlochie - Father of Beatrix Grant (1711-1780) of Inverlochie, wife of Patrick Grant of Glenlochy. Also the father of John Grant in Inverlochie.

John Grant in Inverlochy (?-1791) - a farmer/drover in Inverlochie. First married Jean Forbes who likely died c1751. They had the following children all baptized in the Parish of Kirkmichael:

2. Jean (October 25, 1740-)
3. William aka "of Trois-Rivieres" (Apr. 24, 1743-Nov. 2,1810). Went to Canada at 20 years and very active for many years in the Canadian fur trade. Married Marguerite Laframboise and had the following children:

Marguerite - 1790-1790
Jean-Francois - 1791
Richard - 1794-1862 HBC Chief Trader of Fort Hall. m(1) Marie Ann Breland (children-

m(2) Indian Woman at Oxford House aka Sarah (Child-James Cuthbert Grant
m(3) Helene Kittson nee McDonald (Children-Helene, Julia, Adelina Grant)
Jeanne - 1799. Married Charles Lafrainaie, 1817
Marie Marguerite - 1800. Married Charles Pallison Fontainer, 1846

John Grant in Inverlochie secondly married Margaret Cumming August 7, 1754, Kirkmichael & Tomintoul. Their children were:

2. Son (1751-) Not named in register but believed to be the John Grant who entered the Canadian
fur trade and married Richard Dobie's daughter, Ann Freeman (Children-Ann (Samuel
Gerrard), Catherine (Jacob Jordan), Elizabeth (James Finlay), Richard Grant.

4. George (1761-) His wife's name was Jean and they had at least one child, a son, Mungo.
5. Cuthbert (1763-) aka "of Trois-Rivieres". Joined the NW Trading Company. Believed to have died tragically c1788.
6. Ann (1765-)
7. Girsel (1765-) Speled as in OPR; Went by Grace.
