Looking for the obituary, date of death, for my Great Grandfather, Rev. John Grafton, Jr., who was born in Waldoboro, Maine, in 1843, to John and Ann Grafton, Waldoboro, Maine. He Married Belinda F. Kalloch, on May 13, 1880, in Waldoboro, by the Rev. Wilson Lermond.
His last name was still John Grafton, on the marriage papers for their daughter, Lena Grafton to Ernest Moody, in 1903.
BUT, his last name was changed to John Kellock, on the marriage papers for John and Belinda's son, Maurice L Kalloch to Lula Rowe, 1905. ???

I am searching for information about Benjamin Grafton, b:abt 1819 in Marshall,Harford County,Md, family lore says that he was called "Big Benjie" and he was married to an Indian named Blunder, the 1860 census lists his wife as Brinda and the 1870 census lists her name as Melinda. Their children are as follows: Nancy b:abt 1847, Martha b:abt 1849, Benjamin b:1851, William b: abt 1853, John b: abt 1853, JAMES AQUILLA (my ggftr) 1861-1927, Laura 1868-1951, Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Has anyone come across a Timothy Grafton. He died in 1801 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England aged 71. He was a Timber Merchant and possibly a boat builder. I think he came to the Worksop area when the Chesterfield Canal was being constructed in the 1770s

My GFx5 also Stewart Grafton (who apparently immigrated to Upper Canada in 1812 from SC). GFx4 is James W. Grafton; b. Jan 4th, 1798 Fairfield County, SC d. Feb 9th, 1863 Barton Twp. (Hamilton), UC.

My partial copy of the Grafton Family Connection stops with Thomas and Elizabeth. You seem to have more information than the authors did.

Hi... My GFx6, Thomas Grafton (b. 1715, deceased 1797, was buried in Olivet Church Cemetary in Fairfield Co. SC.). His wife, Mary Elizabeth nee Long, b. 1715 in N.Ireland, died a year later, 1798. Both are buried in the same cemetary, each with a separate tombstone containing their names and age of decease (Thomas 81 years, Elizabeth 83 years). The couple had 7 children: Elizabeth, Thomas M., Daniel, Mary, John, Stewart (b. 1760, my GFx5, had 9 children, emigrated to York (Toronto) May 10, 1812), and Allen b. 1762.

My question... does anyone have info. of the parents of Thomas Grafton (b. 1715 in Antrim co. N.I.)?

Hello! I descend from Hester (Grafton) Wann who was born in the early 1800s in Harford County, Maryland. I've seen her parents listed as John Grafton and Elizabeth Hanna in several family trees online, but haven't seen a source. Does anyone have firm proof matching her to these parents?

Hello James, Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my message that I posted over 5 years ago! My father-in-law, Christopher Patrick Young, is a first cousin, once removed to your Grandfather and your Great Aunt Rowena. They shared the same Great Grandparents, Owen Williams and Jane Chate. As a bit of a hobby I do family geneology. Nothing too intense, but I find it enjoyable to connect with family, however distant and share photos and family history. I first heard of your Great Aunt, because I believe that my father-in-law's brother Andrew (who has now passed away) connected with Rowena many years ago when organising a funeral for a Richard Douglas Williams (about 1977) who would have been a first cousin to your Aunt and Grandfather. When I first started doing geneology my father in law mentioned Rowena's name and said to try and make a connection with family, if there were any. With your response I now have made that connection!

I wonder if you might have any old photos of the Williams Family or perhaps the Chate family? These would be your Great, Great, Grandparents. Or, even photos of your Grandparents? I attach a photo of your Great Uncle Richard Owen Williams (brother of Anna Caroline Williams). The woman with Richard is his wife, Edith Annie Booth and two of their children. They had 5 children, and I am not sure which children are in the photo. I attach a second photo of my father-in-law's mother, Charlotte Williams and her brother Richard Douglas Williams.

I have found on many online Grafton trees a Thomas M Grafton Jr b abt 1750 or 1752 d Sep 1798 Fairfield District SC. I have headstone proof that Thomas Grafton Jr [no M.] is buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery d 14 September 1798 age 56 years old. Next to him is Mary Grafton d 1827 age 71. Also in the row is Thomas Grafton d 1797 and Elizabeth Grafton d 1798.

Where did the initial M come from?

Aquilla Grafton (1757-1829) father was William Grafton, 2nd (1700-1769) his brother (one of several) was William Grafton, 3rd (1750-1822)....check out the reference book "the Grafton Connection, A Genealogy collection by Ralph and William Grafton..this source has a complete history of that family line.....

In my last post I stated that Mary Elizabeth? MNU, wife of Thomas M Grafton 1746-1792 might have been born a Stewart. It is actually Mary Elizabeth MNU b c 1709, wife of Thomas Grafton b 1715 (Thomas M Grafton's father), who may have been born a Stewart. This couple named a son Stewart and the Stewart name was repeated many times in later generations.

All I have in my tree is that Mary 'Polly' Grafton was born c. 1794. Her siblings were William, Thomas, Elizabeth (my line), Margaret, Andrew, Jane and Nancy. Her brother William Grafton marries Ester Stormont, so the families intermarried.

I can prove my lineage from Mary Grafton will sg 1803 of Gladdens Grove, Fairfield Co, SC (near Chester Co line) widow of Thomas M Grafton. Her maiden name is unknown. Both Mary and Thomas were born I believe in Antrim Co, Ireland. I have a rare mtDNA haplogroup (maternal line DNA) that would be the same as Mary's haplogroup. Are there other Grafton descendants from Mary Grafton out there who would like to compare? Since the haplogroup is so rare, this could be a way to find Mary's maiden name, which I believe MAY be Stewart.

I take it that you are from the branch of Graftons who left SC as Loyalists and went to Canada? ////

Mary's will was signed 1803, recording date unk. She died some time later**.////

For those who may be interested, here is some cemetery info on her and her Grafton inlaws from Mt Olivet Cemetery, Fairfield Co, SC from an online transcription (so cannot vouch for absolute accuracy of the readings). ////

They are buried among McCullough graves in Mt Olivet Cem Fairfield, Co, SC Mary's daughter Elizabeth married Thomas McCullough of Fairfield.////

MINERAL RIDGE, OH – Samuel F. “Sam” Grafton, 75, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Vibra Health Care of Mahoning Valley from complications of congestive heart failure.

Sam was born in Warren, Ohio on July 5, 1936, to the late Samuel and Alice (Clemson) Grafton.

Sam attended Youngstown State University before transferring to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, where he graduated in 1964 with a degree in mortuary science. After serving a one year apprenticeship, Sam was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Ohio and worked for the Lane Funeral Homes in Mineral Ridge and Austintown. Sam also worked for the Lane Ambulance Company for many years and Norwich Pharmaceutical Company for 12 years. Sam retired in 1998 from the Weathersfield Local School District after working for 20 years in the Maintenance Department.

Sam was a member of the former Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Mineral Ridge and had a talent for doing calligraphy.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed working and hanging out at Miller’s Garage in Mineral Ridge as a kid and collecting knives. Most of all, Sam’s passion was spending time with his grandchildren.

Sam was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church of Niles, Ohio and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Sam is survived by his wife, the former Janet Gosnell, whom he married on Aug. 18, 1962; two sons, Todd S. (Jennifer) Grafton of Mineral Ridge and Dr. Brian W. Grafton of Cleveland, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Devon, Steven, Zachary and Victoria. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Grafton of Mineral Ridge and an aunt, Shirlee (Ralph) Johnson of Niles.

Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Rathburn.

Family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 Niles Cortland Road, where a funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Irwin presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Sam’s name to either the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

I have information that states that Salem was born 16 Oct 1808 in Maryland, and that's all. I haven't been able to find his parents' names or that of any siblings.

I wish l had something important to say about Cloe, only that l also have very few relatives outside my own children here in Australia. l thought it interesting not only do Cloe and l share the same sir name but also share the same birthday. Cloe, l think was perhaps a strong, deep, and passionate person capable of almost any thing she put her mind to. I don't know why l say this but l'm sure it's true.

Thanks for the information.

Online, I have found the book at the Wisconsin Historical Society Library and at the Library of Congress. My local library is checking with the University of Wisconsin to see if I can borrow a copy.

I'll also try my local Family History Library.
