Hi Debra. My last name was Graban before I was married. Andrew was probably my great uncle or something. Our farm is in Byesville Ohio, near Trail Run. My dad is George, his father was Michael and his uncle was George. Along with another immigrant named Repasky, they started the Russian Orthodox church that is still (barely) standing in Robins, Ohio (Trail Run). You can go into it and see the remains, it's about falling down now, though. There is also a book called "The Immigrant Cocoon" that is available that details the Central European immigrants as they came to the Ohio Valley coalmines. I think Andrew's my dad's cousin. my dad is 81 years old this coming Jan. 20. There are folks like Mark Graban, Bob and Bill Graban, etc. that I've met on the net, they may well be closer related to Andrew, I don't know, can't remember where he fit in, but I recall the name. See ya. Blessings to you in searching for info. God bless, look to Him, In Christ, Marsha

My great, great, great grandmother is Elizabeth Hvizdos from the Kluknava (Klukno) parish area of Slovakia. The Hvizdos family in this parish is huge, and from what I have been able to tell from numerous records (both online and in microfilm) in Slovakia, the Kluknava (Klukno) parish which includes the village of Hrisovce (Hrissoc), Kalyava (Kalava), Richnava (Richno), appears to be ground zero for the Hvizdos family. Please feel free to contact me.

was her husband a rigda? my husband's great grandfather was a rigda from klukno, and i think your family is connected, but have not been able to establish. laura

Hi Laure: To the best of my knowledge, her husband was not a RIGDA. he RIGDA surname, however, definitely appears in the parish and village of KLUKNAVA, as I have seen it in the parish records, including a record in front of me where a SOPHIA RIGDA was the godmother for the baptism (March 25, 1868)of an ANNA TUREK, the daughter of JACOB TUREK and CATHERINA SZKALKA. Please feel free to write me directly at David1Law@aol.com (the "1" is a "one"). If your RIGDA family is related to the HVIZDOS clan, the chances are very, very good that there is a relation. The HVIZDOS clan in KLUKNAVA is huge, and the village of KLUKNAVA appears to ground zero for the HVIZDOS surname. Fortunately, the church records for the latter part of the 19th century are indexed, and if my memory serves me correct, the surname HVIZDOS appeared more than any other surname in the index). I look forward to hearing from you.

My husband is Andy Grabany, Jr. His father was Andy Grabany, son of George Grabany, who emigrated to the US from Slovakia. We have some documents that show George was Graban when he arrived in this country. He was married to Katherine Minich. Both died and are buried in Brookside, Alabama. We live about 20 minutes away, in Pleasant Grove, Alabama.
Odd, isn't it, that he'd name his son is named Andy???

I'm originally from Fairfield,Alabama and I knew a guy named Andy Grabany I met while attending the Presbyterian Church there. He was best friends with a guy named Dan. Wonder if you married him! He lived in Plesant Grove and he had a really nice family. He should be around 56 years old now and went to Germany while in the Army in his 20s!

I saw your e-mail a while back, meant to respond later, but forgot. We have to know the same Andy Grabany, because I know all the Grabany family members. Andy was and still is living in Pleasant Grove. He's my husband (since '91), and we have a terrific kid, Keith, who just turned 16. His mom also still lives in Pleasant Grove, his dad passed away in 1974, and brother Terry and his family moved a few years ago from Pleasant Grove to Hayden.

That's great! Andy was a very sweet guy and I'm so happy for you two. I bet Keith is a really cute kid! Please tell Andy I said Hello! I haven't seen him since 1974 because I went off to Bama to the University with great plans of becoming a doctor and saving the world. You sound so very kind and I bet you two make a really cute couple. I've been looking up my mom's side of the family, the Whitefields and I really love doing this stuff. If you want like to see what I look like, I'm on Face Book as Vicki Lee Kenderdine. You can e-mail me at britishtourist@hotmail.com, if you want to also. I'm married and have a home on Pensacola Beach, in Northwest Florida. How did you and Andy meet? I'm so happy his mom is still alive. She was really cool and so was his dad! Stay in touch!!!Thanks for the e-mail! Take care and Roll Tide!!! Vicki
