Hi Donald-
I seem to have opened a real kettle of worms by checking out the Grab name.
I recently responded to Elizabeth Grab who informed me that Wilhaim Grab arrived in LA in 1823. She is posted on the message board. I have run Grab thru Ancestry.familiew.aol.com-Social Security Death Index Search and found a zillion deceased relatives, many born in New Orleans. The records do not go back very far-late 1800's only. Hope this helps you. Keep in touch!

As far as I can see my Family came to New Orleans in Nov. 1823 I still have some people down there. I am trying to get there in April but I dont know. We have a Bible that is way back but i can not read German. My girl freind can read it inculing the old style German.

Don, I doubt that I can help trace your family...but what was your fathers name and when was he born? You should check the Census records for 1900 and 1910 for your father. All you need to know is where he was then and some time.

My Fathers Name was George E. Grab Dont Know when he was Born but he was born in New Orleans, La.

Donald's Trip to German in April
Donald,
There are several places in Germany connected to the Grab name, including Wuerttenberg, Alsteusslingen and Oberlingelheim. These seem to come up quite a bit. Have a good trip.

Re: Grab line in Monroe County
I'm related to the Grab family. Elisabeth Grab was my great grandmother married to James H. McGrath. She died and he remarried a woman named MInnie McDonald. My grandmother is Joanne McGrath now Proud. My whole family is from Rochester, NY. Still looking into this mystery.
