My husband's mother was a Gozdowski Marie Frances Gozdowski. Her rather came to this country at about age 8.
We don't have much on him other than his name was Jan (John), married to (1) Frances Andrysiak and then (2) Hattie Gozdowski. They lived in Chicago.

I replied to you last year, by mail with pictures. I am very happy to see that you are on the internet...I feel I could make some progress here!!! I replied to you that I have married into the Gozdowski family. I would very much like to give this family some geneological history as a Christmas gift, and I am hoping you can be some help. Two years ago I had a son. He will be the only family member to carry on the name...although he may not be able to pronounce it until he is 10! ! ! You may no longer have my letter. . .in it I mentioned my husband Richard born in Canada in 1956, and also his (deceased) father born in Poland in 1910. His polish name was Vladislaw, in Canada he used the name Walter. In my letter, I stated some other relatives. That information was from my mother in law (nee GADEK) Krystyna, also born in Poland. I would have to tap her memory to get the info again. My husband has a sister, born in Paderborn, Germany...it was a "work-camp" situation...Wlaydyslaw, and Krystyna never returned to Poland after the war...they emigrated to Canada...we don't believe they ever formerly married, but this of course has never been said to us by them....being of their age, it would be a disgrace...however,they could never come up with an anniversary date etc...the hardships of war brought them together...they had a tough life establishing themselves in Canada. Now their children, and my generation, we flourish....how can we thank them, but with maybe a touch of their own history. I thank you for any help you can provide....my mother in law is 74, and would love to know that her history is alive still. Sincerely, Kim Gozdowski

You asked about where to start searching in Poland. My suggestion is to find the nearest LDS Family History Library and talk to those who work there. Their resources are great. The list of FHLs might be on the website for the LDS Church.
