book by Joe Goza; I had this book; gave it to a Goza descendant whose given name was not from the Goza side. The book states that the orig. Goza was from Italy; this man i gave the book to said that he heard the orig. ancestor was from Italy. Joe Goza's book mainly lists the Goza's who went to Oklahoma. These are relatives of Geri Goza Diehl (dec'd-a sweetheart) and the family reunion i didn't get to attend to try and meet other Goza's is in Jones Co Tx-I think. There was no back up no bibliography to the book at all. He lists droves of descendants which would be a gold mine for anyone on his side of the family but these are not the descendants of the Goza's from Ben Bunting's research. Go to your search engine on the internet and type in Mississippi Goza's by Ben Bunting. He lists the Goza's in which mine are included who came into Miss.Geri and Joe both part American Indian and I am also from my Miss. gggrmo for one whose mother was a Goza. This is my question, Joe stated that the orig. Goza was a Catholic Crusader who traveled through Europe and the Netherlands, met a blond girl he married in the Netherlands and was not happy with the govt.'s throughout Europe (as the rest of our ancestors obviously); he "met up with a fellow friend in the Crusades named Heinrich"-i might not be wording this exactly-but the book said that Heinrich was joining up with Martin Luther and Goza whose name was actually Gozzi or Gozza in Italy did not want to go that route; he was also was "not happy with the hostile Church of Spain" but did not want to join up with Martin Luther's group. This might all be true but there is no bibliography whatsoever. I wish that Joe had at least given notes on his research and whoever might have them would share them. Don't take this as fact but i thought that an early email i received from Ben yrs back stated that the name here in the Colonies in SC was orig. goosey, went to gosey, gose, goza, "one of the Goza men married a Spanish woman so he changed his name to Gosa"- that i know i was told by someone on the Goza lines and i thought it was Ben but i might be wrong. (computer crashed etc). I am descended from Martin Goza by way of Aaron. If you look up Cherokee names there is a Cherokee Clan of the Tribe by the name of Goossee; now i am just wondering. There is another thing that i am just wondering about-there is an island south of Italy-south of Sicily- forgot the name of the islands-one of them is the Island of Gozo. It is of Mediterranean Jewish heritage. I can see where the name change in America alluded to the name in Italy of Gozzi as they would want us to know where it came from or i can see where it might have come from the Cherokee. It is just a guess. This would call for DNA if that can be acquired on all Goza lines.
