GOWELL
Three brothers came across from WALES (Gower Peninsula) one was lost at sea the other two landed in Maine.(Portsmouth?) It is believed that all Gowells in the U.S. came from these two brothers. Yes, we were on the Mayflower. However the name is more likely GOWER pronounced GORAS in Welsh--just imagine what happened to the name post ship! As the name Gowell is not to be found in England or Wales. Hence Gower Peninsula. Check the name Gower when doing a study in Wales. We are related to a Sir Lord Gower who was much the same as Sir Lord Byron and Sir Lord Gower is to be found in history books. AND I have dates all done by a study from a professor Gilbert Gowell which was part of the Morman group. I am related to a Charles A. Gowell, (Mendocino County, CA.) his daughter Juanita Alberta was my grandmother. I have lots of dates in this study, please email to chat.

Well, the beginning of your story is the same as my son in law's, so that makes two sources of the same story. How did you come across that information? Can you trace your Charles to Maine? Would be interesting to compare the little I have with you.
