John was born Boxley Kent in January 1718 son of John and Ann. He had 9 siblings, Elizabeth, George, Mary, Ann, Richard, Patience, Margaret, Thomas and William.

Kent records are so difficult to research unless you have the exact CD of the parish, we have not found a father for John who was baptised at Boxley, however, we did find a marriage for John and Ann at Boxley in 1715. I was wondering if anyone else was researching this family and if so whether we could perhaps share information.

Hello
I realise that your message is over a year old. I have been developing the Gower/Gowar family tree for some time and like you have managed to establish a tree which starts in Boxley (John Gower (1) and Anne Hearndon) and then moves to Maidstone - John Gower (2) who married Ann Sears.
Most recently have picked up on the change of spelling on the name from Gower to Gowar when members of the family moved to Greenwich...and the emigration of one of the descendants of the above (Richard Gowar and his wife Mary Mathilda Harriett Diplock) to South Africa in December 1819.
There seems to be much misinformation on the net about this i.e. that Richard Gower who travelled to SA was a Rear Admiral ! in fact he was a plumber.
My tree is on GR....and would be pleased to share it if you have access.

My husband is a direct descendant of the John/Anne above but through a line which remained in and around Maidstone Kent until the mid - late 19th century when his grt grandfather x 2 moved to London...his mother and sister have 'returned' and are living in Tenterden near Maidstone.

Regards Jackie Gower
