Hi Rab Gowans of Dundee Scotland.I noticed your message on the Ancestry. Com . Site.I am David Gowans born Dundee, Sept. 17 1916 at 51 William St. My parents were Allan and Bessie McLean Gowans .I am the last of my direct family. My brothers were Allan II, John and Jean ,the boys were born in Dundee and Jean in Glasgow area.
My grandparents were David born Montrose and Ann Fowler born Dundee 1864 and1866 respectively. They had 7 children ,David ,Alice, Allan ,Ann, Jean, Isobell andWilliam, all born in Dundee.
Great-grandparents were James Gowans and Margaret MacKay .I don’t have dates or other info on them at this time.
My father left Dundee fall 1923 to join the Canadian harvest in Winnipeg .Spring 1924 he headed for Dundee via Montreal and decided to remain there.Mother and 4 children joined him in Oct. 1924.We finally settled in Ville St. Pierre suburb of Montreal. I recall dad’s parents lived at 1 North William St. at the corner of Ann St. We attended Ann St school and Allan spent 1 month at Stobswell High just before we left for Canada in 1924.
We still have relatives who live in Dundee:Uncle Willie lived somewhere at the bottom of Den’sBrae off Victoria road .He and his wife Maggie Ann raised a family in the area ;2 boys were Ronald and Ged.the latter came to Canada and lives in the West. I met he and his wife at my nephew’s home in Toronto.

My mother’s brother married Annie Cowie and raised 4 children in Dundee Jean,William Elisabeth[Betty] and another son whose name escapes me at the moment. I met them downtown Dundee 1980 with another cousin Frank Donnelly. We were all guests of William at the Dundee Curling club Saturday evening at that time.
