Gowanlock DNA Test Results

Hello fellow Gowanlocks, Gowenlocks, Govanlocks etc.

I have just had the results of the Ancestry paternal lineage DNA test (Y chromosome 46) that I took a couple of weeks ago back. I believe that I am the first Gowanlock to take this test.

As you will have gathered by now most, if not all, of us root back to one of the Scottish border counties (Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire or Dumfriesshire). Given the comparative rarity of our surname, and its very localised geographical origins, I suspect that many of us may be related. If some more Gowanlock males (or any with one of the spelling variants) were to take the test then we could see if this is the case.

So if you've been thinking about taking the test, you now have another Gowanlock to compare them with. Also I have an unbroken documentary record of my paternal lineage going back to 1784 (via BMD, OPR and Census records) so there's a good chance I'm a genuine "biological" Gowanlock at least back to that time.
