I am trying to tie the Morrison (Glenwood, GA)family connection to the marriage of Mary Isabel Gillis (3/15/1874)and Robert Dawson Gowan (5/16/1867). I believe that Mary Isabel Gillis, Mother's maiden name was Morrison. Any help, send information to [riddick1@gte.net]. Thanks

My direct e-mail address is riddick1@gte.net and I would appreciate hearing from you. Kate Morrison was the daughter of Daniel Angus Morrison and Mary Pearl Reynolds. I have not found her birth date, or death date. Parents Daniel and Mary are both buried in Glenwood Cemetery. I had found a note in my Grandmother's things that Kate married an Edgar Gowan. You said that Kate was married to Ervin Gowan, but sometimes things are mis spelled. Please contact me about what information you have, and I will gladly share my information with you. Thanks, James Lee

Mary Isabel Gillis/Gowan was my grandmother. I know that Idelle Morrison was my mother's cousin. Idelle, (I'm not sure of the spelling of her first name), had a sister named Kathryn Ball.
I don't know if my grandmother's mother's maiden name was Morrison. I think Idelle and Kathryn were the daughters of my mom's Aunt Annie (Mary Gowan's sister). There were also at least two brothers of Idelle and Kathryn, not sure of the spelling, Meldrum and Harlow. If you have any other information on our family, I would love for you to share it with me. My mother's name was Cleo, and I think she had 7 or 8 brothers and sisters. I have very little other information, except some of the names of my mom's siblings. I know they grew cotton on their farm and that my grandfather, Robert Dawson Gowan, ran a general store in Glenwood. If you have any specific questions, I'll try my best to answer them. There may be things my mom told me that just aren't coming to mind now. I hope that this information will help you in some way. My email is maryhile@gmail.com.

My e-mail has changed to riddick11@verizon.net. The 2 sisters you are inquiring about are Anna Eugenia (Annie) Gillis (10 Aug 1865 to 18 Mar 1951) & Mary Isabell Gillis (15 Mar 1874 to 29 Dec 1958). Annie married 05 Mar 1885, David Franklin Morrison (29 May 1853 to 29 Aug 1929) and Mary married Robert Dawson Gowan (16 May 1869 to 24 Nov 1936). Annie was the mother of Mary Idell (Idella) Morrison (19 Feb 1891 to 17 Sep 1987). Idella married 08 Oct 1910 to gowan, John Elvin (Red) Morrison (31 May 1888 to 06 Jul 1968). Annie was also the mother of Katherine C. Morrison (01 Apr 1896 to 23 Aug 1985) Katherine married James Carl Ball (24 Mar 1887 to 17 Nov 1969). There were 3 brothers, Meldrim, Eugene & Harlow. Your Mother must be Catherine Cleo Gowan born 06 Jun 1914 in Glenwood, Wheeler County, GA. If uou like I can send a file directly to your e-mail.

Yes, my mother was Cleo Gowan. She actually did not have a middle name but took on the name Catherine because she loved her cousin Katherine so much. Katherine used to stay with us in Tampa after her husband passed away in 1969. They had lived in Tampa for a while before he passed away. I never knew his first name because Katherine always called him Ball. She eventually went back to Glenwood and stayed in her trailer behind Idella's house. My Mom, Cleo, was actually born on June 19, 1914 and passed on May 16, 2007. She left Glenwood after graduating high school and lived with her sister Emma Gowan Saba in Tampa until she married my Dad, Evander (Red) Hamilton, Jr. in 1940. I would be very grateful if you would send a file to my email, maryhile@gmail.com. This also explains why my brother's middle name was Eugene. I'm so happy I ran across your post when I was researching my grandmother. Thank you for the information, and I look forward to hearing from you.
