Hello Peter, I am a descendant of an Alexander Gow, who we think was born in Blair Atholl about 1786. He joined the Royal Horse Artillery in 1812 and travelled to the Madras area of India where he became a member of the Madras Horse Artillery. We are trying to trace him, to find out, if at all possible, the names of his father and mother. I appreciate that there are a great number of Gows who were born in the Blair Atholl/ Dunkeld area of Perthshire. I'm not sure why, but surmise that this may be something to do with the clan system in Scotland? This Alexander Gow, is a relative, I have been told, of Niel Gow the fiddler. I don't know if you can help me? Jane Barclay (nee Gow)
