Peter, I am descended from Neil Gow, I think.
But do not know if from a son or daughter. He had several of each. My great Grandmother said we were related to the "drunken fiddler". She was born 1850 in Edinburgh. Maiden name Helen Clark.

Julie, afraid I do not have much. My g grandmother, Helen Clark was born Edinburgh, Scotland 1850 and dyed Edinburgh 1925. Neil Gow had several daughters, I think, and my Helen could be descended from one of them. Or from one of his boys, two of whom lived in Edinburgh. Helen Clark had no siblings. Please keep in touch. Although I have not had much sucess, I enjoy the effort. My ggrandmothers married name was Menelaws. Perhaps we can share more info as time goes on. Janet

Hi,

I may be able to shed some light. I am related to Niel Gow and Nathaniel Gow from Nathaniel's daughter Augusta Gow.

Niel was married twice. His first marriage was to Margaret Wiseman (mother of Nathaniel). From this marriage there were five sons: William, Andrew, John, Daniel and Nathaniel. He may have had children from his second marriage but I'm not sure about this.

Good luck with your search.

Kelly

Peter Niel Gow, Thank you very much for your help. My great grandmother, Helen Clark, b. 1850 Edinburgh was descended from Nathaniel Gow, I think. Having a hard time finding Nathaniels descendents, but shall persevere. Thanks again, Janet

Janet, I was doing a search on Rootswec for the surname Menelaws and your post to the Gow board came up. I noticed that your ggrandmothers married name was Menelaws. I'm looking for Elizabeth Menelaws who married David Thompson. They had a daughter named Mary McLean Thompson who married Walter King Hunt. Walter and Mary were my ggrandparents. Menelaw can't be that common a surname, maybe we have a common relative. I'd be glad to swap what I have. Thanks in advance for any information Bob
