Well its nice to see all the Govea's putting vital information that the rest of us can read....i have always heard that all Govea's are somehow related...and recently heard that our name came from Portugal, instead of Spain, like i was led to believe....it would be nice of someone, who had the time, to really find out where our name came from and to find out if we have any kinda of royalty in there some where. My Grandfather is Emilio Martinez Govea( he spells it Gobea)
and i know he was born in Mexico in a small town named Dr. Arroyo....in the state Nuevo Leon. And that is as far as i have gotten. If anyone else has any information on the Govea's from Fort Worth, TX please let me know....

Hello There Cuz!(Freddy Jr.)
I say "Cuz" because I do know that we are definately related to you. My name is Janie Loza Govea and I am related to you by marriage. Your dad and my husband Juan Ramon are first cousins and thier fathers Emilio and Juan are brothers(sons of Epifanio Govea) I started trying to trace the Govea Family Tree since I met another relative back in 1978 and whenever I had time I wrote down whatever I found out. I am doing this because we do need to know who we are and from where we came. I do this for my kids and I am also doing it on my own family Tree (Loza Family). Slowly I have accumalated names and dates and have found out that you all seem to be related one way or another. Now last year I got a computer and I am putting my info down in it and I do appreciate any info any one else can give about thier families, no matter if you are a Govea (or Gobea)by birth or marriage. I was telling my husband Juan that it is funny about the Govea name and my maiden name Loza, well both our familes have two ways of spelling our names. Govea is the actual spelling and not Gobea and Loza is the actual spelling and not Losa. Somehow the Govea name was misspelled on birth records of some of the relatives just as some of the Loza's were misspelled as Losa. If you like we can get together and I will let you see what I do have and you can help me fill out what I do need to put in my "Govea Family Tree". I am sure that you have a lot of info that I do not have and I havn't as of yet got to your Grandparents (Rosa and Emilio)for the names and dates of your side of the family. Now then when you do see my Family Tree it is large yet only cause it contains both sides of my family (my birth side and my married side) therefore my book is titled, "Govea-Loza Family Tree".
Just e-mail me to resond to this note or anyone else out there can e-mail me as well.

The surname Govea appears to be of local origin, derived from the name of a placewhere a man once lived or where he once owned land.In this case,it appears to have derived from a place called Gouveia, in the province of Beira, in Portugal. In the Middle Ages, many families took the name of their native town or homeland as a means of identification. Govea appears to be a rendering of this Portuguese placename and surname. The first record of this surname dates from the reign of King John,or Juan I, of portugal, in the late fourteenth, early fifteenth century. Fernando Nunez de Gouveia, was the son of the Mayor of Gouveia, Nuno Fernandes de Bobadela, and therefore adopted the name of that town as a surname. He married Brites de Melo, daughter of Rui Vaz de Melo, who was lord of Gouveia, and their decendants used Gouveia as a surname. Another possibility is that it is a variant of the Spanish surname Gorvea, originally Gorbea, which is the name of a place in the judical district of Amurrio, in the Basque country. There are numerous entries of both Gorbea and Gorvea in the Index of knights, or Caballeros of Carlos III. I hope this is of some help to all of you. P.S. There is royalty in the Portuguese origin.

Hello there James Loza, I came across your note and noticed that you too are a Loza, all I really can say is that my parents are Gil Rodriquez Loza & Maria Guadelupe Rendon Gutierrez. Gil's parents are Andres Loza (deceased) & Caremen Rodriquez Tamez (deceased), thier children are Paul Loza, Ralph Tamez, Frank Loza (deceased), Chuy (Jessie) Loza, Juana Loza, Ludres Loza Garcia (deceased) & Maria Loza who died as a child and is buried in Mexico, this I know for I have picture proof of her grave. They have a cousin named Arnulfo Losa who is the son of Pablo Loza (deceased). I do not know any futher than that but am curious to know if we indeed are related for our name is not very common and if it is like my husband's name Govea (Gobea)which thier name is not very common and every one with that name is in fact related, then surely we are related as well. Hello there, Lori Zukerman, it is nice to meet you. As far as i can tell you is that I am a Loza by birth. My Mother is Maria Guadelupe Rendon Gutierrez. My Step-father is Abraham Gutierrez. My biological father is Gil Rodriquez Loza the son of Carmen Rodriquez Tamez and Andres Loza. I have 3 brothers named Gilbert Loza, David Gutierrez and Daniel Gutierrez and 3 sisters named Rose Mary Loza Olague, Sylvia Ann Loza and Nora Loza Vargas. I aslo have 2 children named Christiana Govea Arredondo and Juan Ramon Govea, Jr. and 4 grandchildren named Gilberto Bennie Arredondo III, Mariah Nicol Arredondo, David Issac Patino and Nicholas I. Patino. My fathers (Gil Rodriquez Loza) brothers are Pablo Loza, Ralf Tamez, and Frank Loza who is deseased. And his sisters are Juana Loza, Chuy (Jessie) Loza and Luerdes Loza Torrez (deseased). Now then, I was told by my fathers cousin, Arnulfo Losa (Pablo Loza's son) that my grandfathers name was Andres Loza and he had no sisters and 2 brothers named Pablo Loza and Arnulfo Loza. I only know the children of Andres Loza which is where I myself am related and as for the children of Pablo Loza I know them as well and Arnulfo Loza I was told by the son of Pablo (Arnulfo Loza) that he had no children. So far I have not been able to find out the name of the father or mother of these 3 brothers. It may be that we are related and if so maybe you can help me find out by connecting the names. Our name is so rare and it seems as though if you are named Loza or Losa then we may be related. It is like my married name, Govea or Gobea, the ones with this name are related as well. It is so funny that I married into a family that has the same mistake in the spelling of the family name and yet they are all related. Also I have found out that our family may have originated from Spain and that we have blue blood in our family. Well, Lori I sure hope to here from you soon! You can e-mail me at coca-colajanie@charter.net Janie:)

Hi Janie,

Since you have been doing all of this research on the Govea (Gobea) name, I am hoping that you can help me too. My father who passed away approx. 2 years ago was Tony Gobea Jr. of Chanute, Kansas and his father was Tony Gobea Sr., who I believe was from Parsons, KS. I know very little about my Grandfather as he died in 1932 while my Grandmother, Susanna Guerra was 3-months pregnant with my father. I do not know if my Grandfather had any siblings or who his parents were. Rumor has it that he was buried in Parsons, KS, however, I do not have a place or date of birth. Since my Grandmother remarried not too long after he died, my father had no idea he was a Gobea until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Many people believe that we are of French descent, however, I have also heard that we might be Spaniard. My sister, Lisa, and I would love to know about our heritage and to locate any distant relatives that might be out there. My father had one full brother and sister. There names are Joe (Frank) Gobea and Sally Gobea-Padilla. They both reside in Chanute, KS. Any information that you would be able to offer would be most appreciated.

Thanks.
