On this day 322 years ago, Edward Gove took up his sword against the Governor or NH for unjustly peroguing the elected assembly. While unsuccessful, resulting in a trial, a sentence to be hung, disembowelrd, drawn and quartered, he was sent to the Tower of London through the Traitors' Gate where he spent the next three years until released and his property restored.
While a Canadian of Loyalist descent, I celebrate this day in recognition of my ancestor, who personifies the NH motto-LIVE FREE OR DIE!- and will drink a toast to his name.
