Thank you so much for all of that information! I am the ggdaughter of FGG's cousin, William Govan. Forgive me if I posted this anecdote before, but my mother used to tell a story passed down to her by William about FGG's father, Moore--"Uncle Moore"--when he lived in Alabama. William lived with him for a time I guess in the "hills," where Uncle Moore fed his horse oranges and taught it to sing. He was "eccentric," to say the least. That is a very strong gene in our family, probably in yours too! So we are some sort of cousins.
I have never found a link to Andrew Robison Govan. He came from Scotland, but I don't think there is any relation at all, in name only. I believe James Sr.'s brother in London/Glasgow was called Archibald, and I have his will as well, but I can't prove it's his. I have read James Govan Sr's will online at lva.org, along with a multitude of family papers. There is a family bible--the Hill Family, I believe--and Moore's birth is noted in it, as is James (Jr), from whom I am descended. James Jr has been a puzzle to me--he moved to NO, but why? You probably know. I have found him in various censuses listed as "printer," "news delivery", etc., and his brother-in-law was a printer and newspaperman. I don't know the first thing about James and would love to know more. His wife is almost equally puzzling, as hit a solid brick wall after I get to her mother.
Anyway, the Fauntleroy family is a storied one in the halls of the First Families of Virginia. Your blood is pretty blue, but fat lot of good that does these days! FGG had a brother, Moore, who died young. I didn't know about the sisters. But FGG's father and grandfather were both Moore Fauntleroy Govan.I have FGG's pedigree pretty far back, to Moore Fauntleroy in merry old England in the 1630s, I believe. If you don't have that information, I'd be glad to share. I think I also have Daisy's obit from Tennessee, but I have to check. Let me know what I can help you with, and any info you might have on James in NO would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks so much for responding!
