Does anyone in this name listing also have information of the name changing to "govaars" when the govaerts immigtated to Holland a few hundred years ago? I know the name change came but I was wondering if anyone has any links on it....Amy

Hello, let me introduce myself, my name is Rob Goverde, and we all, the complete Govaars family do have the same ancestor tree, because this name was written on so many ways.
I do still my research for this over 25 years, and we have planned to mkae a book off all the ancestors of Godefridi Govaerts, he was born in 1600 in Gilze Nrd Brabant, this is a small village in the Netherlands.
At this time our family history contains more than 5000 names and they came all from Godefridi Govaerts.
Also if you are intrested please mail me and I will send you all the info

Rob, perhaps you could help me then. I'm looking for information on Joseph (?) Govaerts married to Marie Lambier. They had a son Pierre (aka John Peter) Govaerts b 1854 in Belgium - his wife: Maria Francois. Pierre had 7 children: Marie, Pieter, Phyllis, Joseph, Alexander, Marie, and Stella. If you or anyone has any information on this line it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Could the name also be Johannes Petrus G. ? Just a thought. I will have to check my data but that name (Johannes Petrus) or the like seems familiar.

The other the dutch name for Joseph is Josephus. Might either of those names ring a bell?

Yes it could possibly be. I have a copy of my g-grandmother's naturalization papers baptized as "Maria Catharina Felicia G. aka Phyllis Catherine. Listed on her papers are "Joanni Petri" and "Maria Agnes Francois." I know that Maria Agnes was her mother so I'm assuming the name "Joanni Petri" was her father. He was known in the states as Pierre or John Peter b. February 26, 1854 Vechmaal, Belgium. What information on your Johannes Petrus do you have?

My Josephus Govaars is a differnt family line. I have most is not all of the information for the chgildren and parents in my family tree. Have you tried checking with Rob Govaerts? I have checked my listings to see if any of the names I have match yours with that date record. Hopefully Rob will contact you or you can get ahold of him. He has a lot of information on the name set you are searching for. Do you have information on the city in Belgium they came from?

So sorry I haven't replied. The place in Belgium is Vechmaal. Thank you for trying to help. Rob has done some checking for me. Just to make sure though, where is your Josephus Govaars from? My great Grandmother had a brother Pieter Joannie Bartholome Govaerts from Alberta Canada. But, my records show he had no children.
