Hi,
I am looking for any information that someone may have on my Paternal Grandmother. Her name was Alice Gotchgy, date of birth and death are unknown. The only information I have on her is this. Alice married a Frederick LeRoy Smith, date unknown. They resided in Washington State. They had a son Keith L. Smith born 7-8-1926. I do not know if they had any other children before or after my Father. Alice and Frederick either divorced which i believe was the case or he died. Alice later on remarried a Folsom. They resided in washington state I believe in the same area of Tacoma. I believe they had children other than a daughter also named Alice. I do not know if this Alice Folsom was a daughter or a daughter in law . I do believe I remember hearing about her and that she was my fathers sister.
If anyone has an Alice Gotchgy please let me know. I have been searching for my fathers family for many years and just recentely obtained her last name. Any help will be welcomed .I remember aunt Alice Folsom may have resided in california in the 80's.
Thank You ,
Susan Howe

Hi again

Alice Ione Gotchy was born 28 Sep 1905 in Stanwood, Snohomish, Washington to Alice Belle Carpenter and Charles Wellington Gotchy.

Alice is believed to have died Mar 1997. She was married several times and I do not know the names of all her husbands but I do have information on her ancestors. Please contact me at dkaypdx@comcast.net and I can provide you with Alice's ancestors and siblings.

Dear Susan Howe,
I have the info you want re: Keith LeRoy Smith. I am married to Alice's youngest son. We have family photos etc. and have been wanting to pass them on to Keith's children and grandchildren.
Alice had 5 husbands and 8 children. Six of the children are still living. The sequence is as follows:
Alice Gotchy (Gauthier)(maiden name)-She was born 9/28/1905 in Stanwood Washington She died March 1, 1997 in Tacoma Washington
Alice married Mr. Smith in San Francisco, CA Feb. 1924. I am a bit unclear about the first name because one note she has said Roy J.G. Smith not Frederick. I am guessing she called him Roy but I will ask his siblings later.
They had one son Keith LeRoy Smith born July 8, 1926.He was born in Olympia, WA. Alice and her husband divorced when Keith was very young. Keith spent several years in military service. I have his U.S. Navy paperwork. Keith died of diabetes, in Tacoma in 1979. I recall Alice used to keep in touch with Keith's wife after they divorced. I think her name was Betty. In fact I think I have photos of Betty and a child or two.
Alice then married Mr. Stevens. They had four children. Alice (possibly your Aunt Alice), Martha , Clarence (Buck) & Mary. Her husband died in ?
She then married Snyder. They had two children. Charlotte and Charles Chuck). Charlotte is now deceased.
When Alice's husband died, she married William (Bill) Nelson. They had one son, Daniel. Her husband died when Daniel was only one year old.
She married John Olwyn Folsom in 1950. They did not have any children. Alice and John were happily married for 30 years. John died in Tacoma in Dec. 4, 1980.
Alice and John were avid historians and I have stacks of lists and papers with their research.
Hope this is helpful. Would love to send information etc. to Keith's family. Alice's brother, Joe Gotchy wrote two books full of history. One is called From 1903 to Eternity which is about family history. The other is called Bridging the Narrows which is about building the Narrows Bridge in Tacoma, WA.
Thank you,
Linda

This is great. I just saw this listing looking for information on the Gotchy name. I am Alice Folsom's grand daughter. I really would like to correspond with you. I remember your dad as a sweet man who always had a hug for me and my siblings. He lived with my grandmother for a time in the 1970s. I always wanted to meet my cousins from him. Even though there were many different marriages, my 4 aunts and three uncles all stayed family. I wish we could have known you grown up. Do you have siblings? And...it looks like my Aunt Linda has e-mailed you as well. Linda, if you're reading, I'd love to read what you have as well. I know grandma did a lot of research.

Gotchy is derived from Gauthier. The family came to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, from Quebec. In the database "westscottstreet" at the free site wc.rootsweb.com, look at Alice Ione's father, who is listed there as "Charles Wellington (William) Gauthier (Gotchy)". From there you can trace backward a few generations, to get you started.
