I was wondering if you had any information on my side of the family.... I am looking for military records... I know my grandfather William served somewhere... (although the US has no records of it) He immigrated after you G-grandfather and my great uncle Edward.... in 1918( or around that time).... I'm wondering if maybe he fought for Germany, or Poland? and left in the middle of the war. There are no records of landing for my Grandfather, and we know he was injuried by two bullet wounds in WW1. My father said my grandfather came into port in Seattle WA. Which port did Carl come into. Do you have any information from his (carl's) home land? Where he was born? his parents names? I don't even have that information...although I have pictures, but little or no information on who is in them. Any information would be great. Thanks.

I don't have any information from military records but here is what I do have on my great grandfather.

Carl Edward Goschke was born 22 Oct. 1866 in Alexandri Kreis, Russia to Carl Edward Goschke and Mathilda.

He married Julie Ann Kamenski about 1891. Julie had been married before and I think (no records) her first husband was killed in a war. She had a daughter, Alvina, when she married Carl.

My grandmother was born in Germany, I'm not sure where but they were living in Treblin, Pomerania, when they immigrated and my grandmother was less than 2 yrs old at that time.

They sailed from Hamburg, Germany, on Apr. 3, 1897, on the ship Bruno. First stop was in Liverpool, England, where they boarded the SS Vancouver and sailed for Halifax, Canada. They crossed Canada and entered the U.S. on Apr. 23, 1897, at Pembina, ND. The records show that they were joining a brother-in-law, Westf. Taylor Jorgensen, in Walhalla, ND. Julie's parents made the trip with them. They had five more children in the U.S., one of them was another Carl Edward.

Carl Edward Goschke (the second) died in Walhalla on 10 May 1939.

While Pomerania was part of Germany back then I believe it is now part of Poland. The borders changed during the wars so it is more difficult to get information over there.

The information I have came from a researcher at the Mormon church. I didn't hire them but the daughter of one of my Dad's cousins did.
