I have a tree back to 1700, and a very good genealogist has tried to go back from there with no luck. I am now trying to link up all the living Gosbee's as there are only about 180 on the electral list so approx 300 total. My branch comes from a place called Isle of Oxney near Hastings on the south coast of england. Hope any Gosbee's will make contact. George. PS George and Robert run back generations.

G'day from Australia. Just thought I let you know that there is a colony of Gosbees in AussieLand. Not in large numbers but seems to be growing. My father Henry died last year aged 88 years and he told me that our ancestors came from Lydd, Kent, England and arrived here in the 1850s. Hopefully not convicts. Thought any Gosbees out there around the world might be interested. Cheers.

Thanks for msg how much info do you know / want to know. I have a family tree with about 1100 names on back to 1700. There seems to be only 2 or 3 branches that we cant join up. My branch is from near Folkstone in Kent. Do you have the names of those who emigrated and there perentes names ?

I would like to know if your information has a Lucy Gosbee married to Fredrick George Smirke. this would be my Great Grandmother. also, my grandmother said a lot of her "Smirke" ancestors were lost in the "blitz". Would you know the time period she is referring too. Perhaps I have found a brick wall and can not get information. Thank you G. McGinn

I have 2, Lucy Gosbee's b. 1871 no decendants listed and an older one b.1776 again no decendants and no husband's. The older one is a near direct ancester of mine. No Smirke in data. Blitz was the bombing of London early WW2.

Hi George My great Grandmother was Lucy Gosbee, died about 1898, my records show her mother was Elizabeth and she had a brother Alfred. I have tried so often to get a line on this connection but to no avail. There is for sure the connection to Smirke. Sir Robert Smirke was a brother to Fredrick George Smirke and Charlie a famous jockey born in 1906 died 1993 would have been a nephew I think. My grandmother indicated that the Blitz took a lot of her family, but I am not sure who or how many. Fredrick George Smirke was going through to be a Doctor, however, when he married Lucy, an Irish girl, he was disowned. there is such an interesting story to be told, if only I could piece something together. I always felt that someone would have wanted to know what beocme of my Grandmother. Elizabeth Lucy Smirke. I have lots of details from this side of the ocean. so, George, do you think we could be connected?? Thanks so much for at least toughing base with me. sincerely Gaye Mcginn
