Smirk Family

I am seeking information on the ancestors to a Thomas Smirk born in 1832 to Sarah Smirk and William Wolstencroft in Manchester, England. He was transported to Australia in 1851 and has a large family as a living legacy. I know he had a brother William and that Sarah married again to a John Owen. Margret Owen Smirk was born to them in 1845.

I believe that the Smirk/Smirke surname is one family with the "e" being optional. I note the earlier thread relating to members of the Smirke family that died in the blitz.

If anyone has any information on the family please drop me an e-mail

Thank-you

David

David,
In your Smirk Family do you have any reference to Ellen Smirk, born Manchester, about 1852?
I have been unable, as yet, to find a birth registration, she married Thomas Toole in 1871, and she is my GGM.
I would appreciate hearing from you.

The information is not now required as my Smirks are not connected, as far as I can tell.

Hello Garry
I hope you're still involved in this Board because I am one of the many Smirks totally confused about their heritage.
My Thomas was the one born to Sarah and William Wolstencroftl and baptised at Manchester Abbey in 1833. When he was transported he reverted to his mother's name of Smirk.
Any info greatly appreciated!

Hi Barry
I suspect Basil will have come and gone by now otherwise you could give him my regards!
I too am descended from Thomas Smirk of Salford and Western Australia and have met Basil at reunions I organized a few years ago.
Has anything more been discovered about Thomas's heritage and the whereabouts of his brother and sister?
I know descendants exist but haven't been able to find Thomas's brother and sister even marrying let alone producing heirs.
Thanks for your help

Hi Garry

I appreciate that it was a long time since this post but I wondered if you would please be able to give me the names of Sarah Smirk's parents. I am trying to complete my family tree and have a Sarah Smirk who could be Thomas' mother. I have her birth record but cant find out what happened to her after. If the parents you have match the parents I have then my mystery will be solved! Thanks in advance
