MINEVILLE — Edward John Goralczyk, born March 8, 1923, died peacefully at his home on May 17, 2006. He was the son of William and Mary Goralczyk.

He served in the U.S. Navy from March 7, 1944 until Feb. 1, 1946. He served on the USS Hansford and the USS Larramie during World War II. He retired from Republic Steel Corp. after working 28 years when the plant closed in 1971.

Edward was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Anna Rose (Wojewodzic) Goralczyk; also two brothers, John and Leonard Goralczyk; and one sister, Nellie Henzler.

He is survived by four children, one daughter, Patty and John Ives; and three sons, Edward Goralczyk and longtime companion, Kimberlee O'Connor, James and Shelly Goralczyk and William Goralczyk; nine grandchildren, Timothy Hargett, Michelle Gregware, Jack Hargett II, Stefan Goralczyk, Aaron Goralczyk, Megan Dedrick, Tiffany Goralczyk, Danielle Rorke and Danny Goralczyk; also 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Victoria Kimball.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville. Burial will follow in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Moriah.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mineville Veterans of Foreign Wars or to the American Diabetes Association.
