Debra,
I do not believe your story concerning Frederick Goppert is correct. From the 'oral' story told from the Goppert family of Chester/Newell/East Liverpool, OH area is that it was Frederick George Goppert's father-in-law, Karl Sittig, that this story belongs to. Karl is also from Germany, the Westfalen area. Karl Sittig's daughter was Clara Pauline Sittig who married Frederick George Goppert. Frederick's parents were Frederick George Goppert, Sr. and Sophia Louise Lundasbank. Both Frederick Sr. and Sophia came over from Germany and settled in Allegheny Co., PA before moving to the 'Narrows' between Chester and Newell, WV. Frederick Goppert Sr is on the census of Allegheny Co., PA in 1870. The census also lists that the first two children of Frederick and Sophia were born in PA. This Goppert line is from Bavaria, Germany and the dates of Frederick Sr. fit into a family from that area, but I am in the midst of tracking this down to verify it.
My grandmother was Hildagard Agnus Goppert-Allison. Many of the Goppert descendants still live the 'Tri-State' area of Chester.
George.
