Re: Lonnie Gonce had 3 sons with opal walker
Hi Michael (and others):
I can also give you information on Lonnie Gonce's ancestors back to the mid 1700s when the Gonces first arrived in this country.
I've also written two reasonably large documents about Lonnie's great-grandfather Dr. Abraham Rudolph Gonce - certainly one of the more colorful characters in our Gonce ancestry.
If you or anyone else would like to exchange information, I'm always interested in learning more about the line.
My Gonce ancestry comes from my mother, by the way. I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD, part of what I refer to as the "Mid-Atlantic Branch" of the Gonces. The Missouri line is an offshoot of the Gonce siblings who left the Maryland/Delaware area for the Tennessee frontier in the 1790s (I've also written a paper about that migration).
Can I assume that you are a descendant of Lonnie's?
Regards,
Frank Oberle

Re: Lonnie Gonce had 3 sons with opal walker
Hi Frank, I think Dr. Gonce is probably THE MOST "colorful" character in the Gonce group, for sure. Have you determined the children by his 2nd wife, Martha Ann Keithley and do you have a death date for his first wife? I would love to read the documents you mentioned. Are they posted somewhere or how would we access them? There was one group that went back to Maryland from the Hawkins Co. TN group. Was your mother from that group or were you from those that stayed up that way?

Frank, I would be interested in learning more about the Dr. Abraham Rudolph GONCE ancestry and the TN migration and your large documents concern him. Thanks Lonnie Lonfink@comcast.net

Re: Lonnie Gonce had 3 sons with opal walker
Hallie:
Sorry, I've never found a death date for Doc's first wife Mary.
Matt Keithley's first child was Robyn Gonce, born 23 Sep 1877. He was a brick mason in Oklahoma at the time of the 1930 census, and Doc's second last child, a daughter Myrtle (one of Susan Hargrove's kids) was living with him there.
I haven't identified Matt's second child, but her third was Lester Olonzo Gonce, born 2 July 1882. Lester is listed as Robyn's brother on Robyn's World War I draft card.
The documents are in Acrobat format, but I haven't put them on-line anywhere yet. I suppose I'll have to find a place to do that eventually but, if you'll send me an actual address, I can stick them on a CD-ROM and send them to you.

Re: Lonnie Gonce had 3 sons with opal walker
Hi Lonnie:
Abraham Rudolph "Doc" Gonce was born in May 1833 (not earlier as some have reported), and was a son of Vance Gonce and Martha (Patsy) Davis. Vance was the son of one of the "twins" Abraham (Abie) Gonce and Polly Vance. Abie was the son of Rudolph Gonce and Polly McDade (Her married name before her husband died - I have never found her birth surname). Rudolph was one of the original three brothers (the others being Abraham and Daniel) who first came to this country with their parents Justice and Magdalen Gonce.
Now that I mentioned the documents, I suppose I'll have to find a place to put them but, for now, if you'll send me a mailing address, I can copy them on to a CD-ROM for you.

Hallie:
Sorry I forgot to answer one part of your query.
I am descended from Daniel, the brother whose descendants mostly stayed in the Maryland area until the mid-twentieth century when some began to migrate (like me).
Hezekiah and his family originally moved to Howard County, which is a little more south and west of Baltimore, so that I never knew about them until I got into researching the family.
