I am researching the Gonce family. My g-g-grandfather was Louis Cleveland Gonce, b 4May 1856, in Tennessee.I am desperate to find out for sure who his parents were. Please let me know if you can help. Also, his son was Ollie Bettercheck Gonce, b.11Oct1901, Aquilla, TX.

Can you tell me anymore about your ancestor. I do not have anyone by that name in my database, but I have a lot of Gonces. Do you know where he came from or any of his ancestors.

Louis Cleveland Gonce,I believe, is the son of John R. Gonce. He is listed on the 1860 census for Bradley Co. TN. But I have been unable to follow the family after that. Louis also had brothers named John Anderson Gonce and Isaac Gonce. The last place he lived was Palo Pinto Co. TX, where he died 6Dec1924.

Darlene, John R, Gonce, b. 1838 is the son of Wilson Gonce b. in Hawkins County, TN, and Malinda Rice. Wilson is the son of Isaac Gonce and Frances Wilson.
According to my records, the children of Wilson and Malinda are John R.; Isaac, b. 1840; Markiel W. b. 1843; Nancy, b. 1844; Franky A., b. 1845; Caroline b. 1847; and Fielding b. 1849. Does this fit with you information? If the family never lived in Alabama it would be natural, I suppose, to miss some children.
I can go back with this family, but not forward.

The John R. Gonce I've been reseaching was born circa 1806. I'm pretty sure his father was Abraham Gonce, b.26Jul1770. John R. also had brothers named Vance,Isaac and Abraham.

Darlene, I have Abraham b. July 26, 1770, but nothing else about him personally. His siblings were Isaac, Margaret and Polly (probably Mary). His father was Rudolph b. 1747/48 in Delaware. Isaac came to Alabama and sired that branch of the family.
