HI Heather. My mothers maiden name is Gomber and I think she had mentioned having an Uncle George. Her father was Joseph Gomber and they lived in Guttenberg and Palisades Park, NJ. Her cousin is Donnie Viviani and he lives in Bogota, NJ. The other names you mentioned sound familiar also. I'll show this to my mother and I'll see if she would have any more info.

Surnames: Gomber, Meyer
My mother in-law is a Gomber. Her father was William J Gomber (1883-1961). His father was Joseph Gomber (1852-1894).
They lived in the NYC area. William J Gomber lived in North Bergen NJ for some of his life. I believe he had a brother Joseph... but don't know much more than that...he may have been born around 1886.

I would love to share what I have found...and I would love to learn more about Joseph... I think there was a sister Theresa (1879-1895) as well.

I am Drew Gomber, a historian living in New Mexico. My father was John, born in 1913 to Joseph Gomber and Anna Kelly Gomber. Reportedly, Joseph had two brothers, Frank and Harry Gomber. There was some kind of falling out between the brothers, though, which I think took place some time between 1900 and 1920. My research has yielded the fact that Gomber is a more common name than anyone in my family had imagined, with Gombers in nearly every state, although I believe I am the only one in New Mexico. I am very curious about mention of another Joseph in such close proximity to my grandfather, who lived and worked as a policeman in West New York, NJ, which is a neighbor to Guttenberg and Palisades Park.

My mother in-law was a Gomber. Her father was william Joseph Gomber...... his father was Joseph Gomber who married Mary Magdalen Meyer.

This Joseph had several brothers including Adam, Nicholas and William.

Nicholas had several children including a son named Joseph who married a Anna Kelly..... so far we are tracking. Nicholas also had sons named.. Henry, Frank and George (who died young).

Now, I believe the Joseph you are looking for is a son of Henry A Gomber (your Joseph's brother). I believe I have been communicating in the past with portions of that Gomber family. I was curious about this Joseph too.... since my mother in law grew up nearby (West New York).... and I came across him in census records.

If you are interested i have more info on that family. It seems to me that someone may have actually mentioned your name at some point in my search. I will have to go back and check my records.
