Frederick M. Goman b. 1842 New York
I am looking for the parents of Frederick M. Goman who was born in New York abt. 1842. He married a woman who I believe is Abbie (Abigail) Ketcham (b. abt 1846 NY). They are found on the 1880 and 1900 census in Argyle, Washington Co, New York.
There is a record for a Frederick Goman having served in the Civil War from New York City born the same year, but I don't know if this is my guy or not. There seems to be several Frederick Gomans living in New York City with various birthdates listed in Census records, but I can't be sure who mine is. Does anyone recognize this name? Frederick lists both his parents as having been born in New York.
One of Frederick's sons was Henry W. Goman, who is my husbands great-great-grandfather. His other children are Frederick A, May F, Jenny, Leroy, Olive and Albert C.

Frederick Mason Goman was my great-great grandfather. He did serve in the Civil War in a New York Militia Regiment. I have letters from him written in 1862 from a camp in Maryland. He was guarding hospitals.

Re: Frederick M. Goman b. 1842 New York
Did you ever find out who Frederick Goman's parents were? I'm interested in finding out about my "Goman" heritage. I can go back as far as Abraham and Sophia Goman who were born in Montreal in about 1817. I believe they came to the US via New York. Perhaps Frederick was related to them? Nancy Goman Haley

Re: Frederick M. Goman b. 1842 New York
Frederick Mason Goman was my great grand fathers brother. His parents were John Goman, 1802-1882 and Catherine Dickson, 1809-1895. Most of the information I have was from a distant cousin that I found on this board. A few Gomans are planning a reunion this July. If you would like info on the reunion or family, I would be happy to forward your email addresses. Are any of you living in upstate NY?

I live about 50 miles from the reunion site in Missouri and intend to attend. Frederick Goman

Frederick, We must be related somehow. Are you connected to Deanna? Wish I could make it, it would be fun to finally meet relatives I have connected with during my research.

Re: Frederick M. Goman b. 1842 New York
My maiden name is Goman. My father was James K. Goman, grandfather was Warner Eugene Goman, great grandfather was Ellis Goman, great great grandfather was Eugene Goman, and great great great grandfather was Abraham Goman. I believe Abraham (born in 1817 in Montreal) married Sophia Martin and moved to the US via New York. They moved from New York to Wisconsin and ultimately to Minnesota, and one went on to Montana. Some remained in Wisconsin. We are probably related. Who was Frederick's father?
