Paul,
I would be interested in any Gomon family still in Oswego, NY. Still trying to figure out if my gg grandfather Abraham Gomon's son Nelson (my great grandfather) was born near Montreal or in Oswego. I have a family tree of Nelson's sons and daughters (and am updating newer family members to it). I would like to know more on Abraham's brothers and sisters and his parents.

Hi,
My g grandfather was Nelson Gomon (son of Abraham Gomon & Sophia Martin of Montreal). They moved to Oswego, NY area then to Wis. My grandfather was Arthur Gomon who lived in Baraboo, WI. There are still lots of relatives in Sauk Co. in Wis. Area cemeteries have a lot of Gomon ancestors.
Even though your post is from 2001 I hope you occassionally check this link. I would be glad to share information with you.

Peter Napoleon Gomon married Mary C.Wybron in Cleveland, NY (1870 Census). Mary arrived in Canada as an infant with her parents John and Eliza Wybron from Devon England: after about four years the family moved to Granby, NY. near Fulton.
See 1860 Census for Jefferson County, NY for Peter and Christine Gomin. The family includes oldest son Peter Napoleon, who was a shoemaker like his father. The 1870 census places the family in Cleveland NY. Peter Napoleon Gomon moved to Oswego Falls, NY by 1880(Census).

Hi,
My GGG Grandfather was Abraham Gomon from Montreal, Canada. They moved to New York (your area) and then to Wisconsin. Some Spelled the name Gomon while others spelled it Goman. The name may have been originally Gaumond and they came from France. Abrahman Gomon (1817-1872) married Sophia Martin. His parents and back may have been Amand Gaumond, Germain Gaumond, Robert Gaumon, & Rene Gaumond. They may have come from the Southeastern side of Paris, France. Some of this is speculation.
One of Abraham Gomon's sons was Nelson whose son was Arthur Gomon (my Grandfather). I have a lot of history on Abrahans decendents. Many lived in Sauk Co. Wis. and are buried in the area. Some settled in Minnesota and have spread out to Texas, Montana, California, and various places in Wisconsin.
I would love to share information to see if we are related. Thanks, Fred Marini

Hi - Peter Gomon and Maria Louisa Christine Guidro (or Jondro) are my husband's 3rd great grandparents, they and their oldest children were born in French Canada. Their youngest (Louis) was born in Onondaga County in 1855. The family lived in Jefferson County in 1860, in Fulton, NY in 1865, Cleveland, NY in 1870, and then in Fulton. Peter Napoleon Gomon is my husband's 2nd ggfather. He was a shoemaker like his father, and reportedly like many French Canadians who came to this area, and worked in Fulton, Syracuse, Cleveland, and Fulton again. I do not have any records on ancestors before Peter Gomon, only what I have added from other ancestry sites. I understand that older family members claimed that the name was originally spelled Gaumont, but I have no records to that effect. I am very interested in exploring a link between the Gomon families. My email address is birch410@gmail.com. Thank you
