I know of some Gokey's from St. Regis Falls area. You are probably related to Elizabeth Lareau Gokey who married Joseph Gokey. She was the oldest living person in NY state. She had a long article in the newspaper about her and her family. It is interesting story of her family with Joseph as pioneers, and her father picking bullets out of their log cabin after the revolutionary war (which he fought on the British side). Anyways she settled in Dickinson Center but she briefly lived in the St. Regis Falls area and some of her family lived there. (The article link is below)
I do have a Fred Gokey in my tree but I don't know if he is the same person. He is my 1st cousin 4x removed so I didn't look too much into him, since we're not directly related. His father was Joseph and Elizabeth Lareau Gokey. I only have an 1875 census on Fred. The Fred in my tree was married, I think, to Mary, born about 1850. Mary was listed on the 1875 census as the daughter-in-law of Joseph Gokey. I assumed Mary was married to Fred due to their ages. I didn't check if they had any kids or if my thought was right. (The census link is below)
Anyways if this is the right person, then please let me know. I'm trying to find Elizabeth Lareau Gokey's father. I don't think he knew how to spell his name because I never find the same spelling twice for him. These are the variations I found: First name: Bartelett Barthleme Jacques James. Last name: Lareau Larro Larue LaRoe Laroux. He is very hard to find.
