I found Henry Gokee listed with my relatives. He was 13 in 1920. This was in Tuscola, Mich. Census records.

Linda,
Thanks for posting! I am unaware of a connection to Henry Gokee, but I do not have any factual resources other than what I've been able to find on the 'net. Could you find out who his parents are? My Grandmother was born in 1920, so it's possible Henry is her nephew (my great-grandfather's brother's child)I don't know if my g-gr-father had any brothers or sisters or where his family originated from. In what way are you related to Henry? I have found a lot of Gokee's living in Michigan right now, as well as quite a bit of history on Gokee's that have passed but am unable to connect them to my g-gr-father. Anything you can contribute is GREATLY appreciated. Have a great day. Brande

Brande, He must be from Michigan, because this is where my dad is from. It says he is a nearest relative. I am in the dark as much as you. I am helping my dad find his family line. His mother died of T.B. when my dad was 3 months old. She was full blooded Chippewa indian. My dad was shifted from home to home. Gokee must be a chippewa family. I will let you know when I find out more.

Hi Linda! From what i understand, Gokee is the "americanized" version of GAUTHIER a french-canadian name. Several other spellingsand pronunciations are GOKEYi'll do the same.
Take Care!
Brande

Hello Brande, Some Chippewa Indians have French in their families. They traded animal furs with them. I just read this. I believe it was beaver. Have you heard this before? My grandmother was full blooded chippewa.

My husbands great aunt has done extensive research with the gokee's. My husband's great great grandfather was John C Gokee. All from Petosky. just curious. does the curly hair and big noses run in your side of gokee's? lol. I will try to get more info and post what i find

Kathy,
Hopefully, I've grown into my nose! But the curly hair went away when I was six and had eight inches of hair cut off a la Dorothy Hamill style. LOL!!! Any of your Gokee's have fire engine red hair? I only saw one photograph of my great-grandparents (Samuel Pearl), and have no keepsakes, no photos of great-aunts. My grandmother was the red head. So was I until about 4 yrs old. It was really nice of you to post and offer more info. My curiousity is killing me! LOL! Unfortunately, I don't know where my g-gr-father was born or married, or anything about his parents or possible siblings. I've barely scratched the surface. If you would like to share any info I would very much appreciate it. Have a great weekend! Brande

Kathy Brande, My Dad was Melcolm Gokee, his father was Claude Gokee, and his father's name was John. Although I'm unsure of his middle inital. My Dad had very curly dark hair and I have red hair. My mother also told me that the big nose runs in the family. When I find out more I'll update this. It was really nice to hear that there is other Gokees' out there.

Dear Ellen: Thanks for posting! I haven't been able to find anything new recently. I am pretty much stuck, as far as free info goes because I dont have any way to link my gr-g-father to anyone. I do know he either owned or managed a carpet store in Petoskey in the early 40's. And, they vacationed in Miami every summer. Any information you would like to share would be wonderful! I continue to search and will post when I make a break! Good luck to you and Kathy. Take care. Brande
