COURTNEY (Goings), Betty Jane 94, of Springfield, Ohio, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 11, 2014, after a brief illness.
She was born January 4, 1920, in London, Ohio, the daughter of Linna (Shaffer) Goings and William Henry Goings.
Survivors include one daughter, Jema Sullivan; one son, Tim (Gail) Courtney; two granddaughters, Megan Sullivan and Erin Courtney; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Miller; special friend, John Wilson; several generations of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bruce, Homer, Robert, Paul and Donald Goings; her sisters, Gertrude Bowdle, Marjorie Goings and Mary Hollowell; husbands, George Morrett and John Courtney; several nieces and nephews.
Betty retired from Ohio Bell Telephone System, after which she fully enjoyed her time spent in travel, genealogical research and especially her love of gardening, to the end.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
Per her request, no services will be held, but a celebration of her life by her family and friends will be held in her home on what would have been her 95th birthday, January 4, 2015, details of which will be announced on Facebook.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League or the charity of your choice.
