Dear Sir.
I am descended from Michael Goings, born around 1740, lived most of his life in Shenandoah Co. I have investigated Luke Goings in Loudoun Co as he was rumored to be a brother. I have never found any verifiable relationship. Michael dies in 1799, Luke lives to around 1836, Loudon Co. Courthouse has Luke's will, I've read it, its quite lengthy but I didn't copy it. Its been a while since I've looked at him, but I have down his wife's name was Susan, children Leonard Sherrard, William, Jason W and James Middlebrook.. I have down on tax lists in Loudon Co late 1700's in addition the above a Moses, Joseph and a Richard Goings.. Richard moves to Fairfax Co, I have always for some reason considered Moses to be Luke's father. A Moses Goings and James Goings are mentioned in the will of Mr. Pearson, a very rich person, in Stafford Co , in early 1700's. Don't remember what they got but James is listed as a co-owner of land with Simon Pearson in Fairfax Co, shortly thereafter where he lived, he later sells his share of the land to Mr. Pearson. I'm thinking Moses may have got his freedom. You are aware that most of these people are listed in censuses as Black or Mulotto.
