I read the list of Gogarty tree from Meath and was excite to find what MAY have been my great grandmother, Annie Gogarty - this is great! My paternal grandfather (her son) Joseph Gogarty Kirk just passed last year at the ripe old age of 94. His wife, my Grammy, Mildred Sullivan passed away 23 days after him.

I'm hoping this may be a link - I'll have to check the dates but the Gogarty's were indeed from West Meath so I'm all excited. Thanks for posting!

What happened to that Thomas Gogarty?
My GG grandfather left Ireland in not so good terms, and moved to England.
Could thst be him? I have the rest of his
family tree. He was born about 1840

Dear Friend,

My aunt married Will Gougharty. She was born in the 1860's and she and uncle Will probably died in the 1930's or 40's in the Grand Rapids (Kent Co.) area. They spelled their name as I have written it. They pronounced it like GOO-ger-tee. I do not know their place or origin, but there was at least one family by that name, though I cannot recall the spelling) listed in the book "Passing of the Gael" by a Fr. McGee of the diocese of Grand Rapids.
I don't know if I've been any help, but if you know where they came from in Ireland. I have run across another family spelled like our relatives who prounounce their name like
GOFF-er-tee.
If you can tell me where the are from, I'd appreciate knowing it. I am trying to locate relatives born Gougherty, but who took the name of their step-father probably in the late 1930's or 40's. T/I/A Dave
