Margaret Gogarty, my maternal grandmother, was born in county Meath, Painestown District, in the 1860's. Her parents were Michael Gogarty and Margaret Farnen. She had at least one sibling, a brother Vincent, who was born in 1864. I am seeking information on this family. Thank you.

My paternal great grandmother
Annie T. Gogarty was from County West Meath in Ireland. I was so thrilled to see a connection of the name in West Meath I thought I'd write - to everyone. I wonder if there is any relation? She must have been born late 1880, 1890s and married Patrick Kirk (from County Louth) and they came to the US and gave birth to my grandfather Joseph Gogarty Kirk in Boston in 1905. I would like to hear from you if you think there is any connection. Good luck with your search.
Sincerely,
Deirdre Kirk Raeside

My ancesters, James Gogarty and Mary O'Reily left Meath County, Ireland and I have located them in Cincinnati, Ohio about 1853. I think that James was born about 1759. They had two sons who came to the U.S. a few years earlier, Bryan & Patrick. Bryan married Cathrine Callahan and they were my great grandparents. I have not been able to find the area where they entered the U.S. I have been in Meath County twice and have not been able to locate any information. There were stories in the family about a area there called Summerhill. I sent letters (about 70) to all the Gogartys that I could locate in the US, Canada and Australia several years ago. Received many replies, but could not make connection with any of these people.
Both Bryan and Patrick came across the country by working on the railroad. They were given land as payment along the way. From the information that I have gathered, Patrick started the first school in Brookville, Kansas. That is also where Bryan is buried. Like the other Gogartys out there, I would like to know more about the clan. There seem to be some strong characteristics that go with the name. One of the Gogartys who replied to my letter called me from Australa and talking to him made me feel like I was talking to a brother.

Hi, my name is Michael Gogarty from County Meath Ireland. The Gogarty family is well recorded in the Kilskyre area of Meath near the town of Kells. Records go back to about 1757.

Dear James,
I can't offer much except that my great aunt's husband was a Will Gougherty. He died about 1938, I think. If you go into google and list Gougherty.St. Patrick Church Ada Michigan you'll likely get somewhere. There is a lady named Katie Cook who maintains a website with records of St. Pat's. It's just outside Grand Rapids. There is a book called the "Passing of the Gael" written by a priest of the diocese of Grand Rapids, Fr. McGee. It's likely out of print, but there were Goughertys in the GR area then. Let me know what you find out. I'd prefer direct e-mail. I'm not sure the posting system shows it, but mine is beermaker@cinci.rr.com
Regards, Dave Donovan
BTW, there is a Giglio family in the parish I work in in Cincinnati.

Oh how it makes for excitement to find a long lost relative!!!! I've mailed you a letter by snail mail from the address listed in public records and was fairly certain you were family.....now I'm convinced after reading your old post! My g-g grandparents were Thomas Mullen and Jane Gogarty and they settled near Brookville, KS in a town that was co-founded by Thomas Mullen called Terra Cotta. I am just getting started tracing the ancestors and am hoping that you have more info on James and Mary Gogarty. I hope you are still searching and reply soon!
