Mary Josephine is my great great grandmother through her marriage to Abraham Henry Murphy. I believe she was the daughter of Andrew and Jane Goffinet. Any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated - birth and death dates, that kind of thing. I've looked at the prior posts but am a little confused. This is my first go at a family tree. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Places and dates would be helpful. My Goffinet gr grandmother's 3 sisters all were named Mary! They went by their middle names.

You started with yourself and worked your way back?
I found in 1860 and 1870 an Abraham and Mary J. Murphy in Perry County, Indiana.
He was born in Indiana, but the transcription says Iowa. Ia used to be the abreviation for Indiana.
She is listed as being born in France.
My Goffinet's were so confusing, I contacted the Perry County Library.

The wonderful people there were able to send me a photocopy of the "Goffinet" information. I think I was only charged $7.00 for the photocopying and mailing. Was a wealth of information. Gave me names to find source records.

Stephen Murphy b.1862 baptized 1863 transcript here:

Mary Angela MURPHY b. 1865 and baptized 1865 transcript here:

August MURPHY b. 1870 and baptized 1870 transcript here:

The records for the baptism years at this site are not complete. They give enough information to inquire at the other resources available in Perry County.
Not everything can be found through ancestry.com

Thank you for the reply and all the information. Yes, I did start with myself; I'm really new at this. I've been using the information that one of my Murphy uncles had gathered, tidbits that I found in my mother's things, and any information I could glean from siblings and cousins. One of the items I found in my mother's papers was the writeup of my Murphy grandparents' wedding in 1912.

Thanks again for replying so quickly and the information you provided.

That is so interesting! Yes, all of it helps. The Murphys are getting together next year, and I'm looking forward to going over any other information my uncle may have. I have really enjoyed the searching I have done so far.

Thank you so much!

Linda, I think we are first cousins. Are your Dad and Mom Merton and Marietta Murphy from Pennsylvania? If so, Merton is my uncle, youngest sibling of my mother, Florence.

We're having an Aldrich/Murphy reunion in Bemidji, MN, next July, about the third week, and would love to see you there.

I'll check on Jane's last name. Not sure I have it. Will let you know.

Yes, Andrew and Jane (Andre and Jeanne Marie) were the parents of Marie Josesphine Goffinet. Jane Goffinet's maiden name is also Goffient and her father was also named Andre. So Andrew Goffinet married Jane Goffient, daughter of Andre Goffinet and Mary Catherine Martin in les Bulles, Belgium November 27,1821.

According to my notes, Abraham Murphy married Sarah Sally Sprinkle August 6, 1850 in Perry County, Indiana and they had a son James Warren Murphy born about 1851. Sarah Sally died about 1851 and Abraham Murphy married Mary Josephine Goffient August 16, 1854 in Perry County.

Children that I have for Abraham and Mary Josephine Murphy (in addition to the first child of Abraham) are Joseph, Emily, Andrew, Abraham, Stephen, Mary, Lydia, August.

I am descended thru Mary Josephine's brother. Please see the 1870 Census for Perry County, Indiana.
