I am trying to make a link to other Goffinet familys, probably in Ind., or make the jump accross the ocean. I know that my gggrandfather was named August Charles Goffinet (possibly Charles August Goffinet before he immigrated) , and that he and his wife Mary Marie Lamblin came to Wayne, Ohio around 1882. They had 1 child, Alpheus J. born in France, June 1881, and all their other children including my grandfather were born in Ohio. I know the bulk of the family tree since 1890, minus a few details, but I don't know if any siblings came over at the same time they did. Any help no matter how small, even if pointing me in a direction to look, would be greatly appreciated.

We are cousins. I am Jim Rohrer, son of Mildred Goffinet Rohrer. My Grandfather was Alpheus who was born June 14, 1881 in Belfort, Alcace Region, France. Our Great Grandfather, August came to America then sent for our Great Grandmother, Marie. They settled near Rittman, Wayne County,Ohio. Our Great Grandparents had 6 children: my Grandfather,Alpheus; my Great-Uncles Armand, Authur, and Albert; and my Great-Aunts Augusta (Aunt Gusti) and Alice. I have tons of information, lots of family pictures, and my cousin Barb (Cookie) has geneological history for a number of generations.

So, which of my cousins are you? I live in Indianapolis, IN and you can email me [jrrohrer@aol.com] or write me at 1930 W. 53rd Street, Indianapolis,46228, or call me at 317-726-0632.

Surnames: Goffinet
Hello,
I have been reseaching the Goffinet family in Perry County Indiana and I have never looked into the Wayne Ohio part of the family. I havent seen any evidence of a post immigration connection but I might be wrong on that. If there is any connection, it might exist in Belgium, perhaps with your Great Grandfather August.

There were seven related Goffinet families that immigrated to Perry County 1842-1854 and most of the present day Goffinets in southern Indiana are descendents. Some of these descendents immigrated to Washington, California, and Illinois. A branch of the family immigrated directly from Belgium to Iowa.

Do you have any information on how the family might be tied together? Perhaps your cousin with the history could provide some feedback.

Thanks.

Jack Haywood

I am part of the Wayne County, Ohio Goffinet family. My grandfather was Arthur Cletus Goffinet. He was married to Elizabeth Petit. Their children were Bernard (called Bob), Lucille, Cletus (my father) and Mary. I believe your grandfater, August, was my grandfather's brother and that they came over from France around the same time. My brother said that many of the Goffinets and Petits are buried in St. Anne's Cemetery in Wayne County. We have quite a few family photographs and I know many cousins who are still living.

Hi:

I know my Grandfather August Goffinet, always lived in Belgium. He never lived in France. However, it's likely that we do have some relatives because a few of the Goffinets came over on the Mayflower, but the Commemorative Mayflower, not the original. Thank you.

Hi,
Let me know if you want any additional information. Two of my cousins, Donald and Elizabeth, live in Doylestown, Ohio. They are Lucille's children. I know how to contact them. Lucille also has chilren living in Baltimore, MD and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Bernard has one child, Rodney Goffinet-I'm not sure where he is living now. Mary has a daughter living in Wadsworth, Ohio. (Rosemary) My dad (Cletus) had four children. I live in Tampa, Florida, now, but my brothers, John and Mark, and my sister, Elizabeth still live in Ohio. Mark has several old family photographs given to him by our Aunt Mary before she passed. One is of Elizabeth Petit Goffinet. (my grandmother) One is a family portait of Arthur Cletus and Elizabeth Petit Goffinet and their four children, Lucille, Mary, Bernard, and Cletus. There is another one of Lucille, Bernard, and Cletus. One is of Cletus Goffinet at basic training camp during WWII.

Hello Jane and Anita, and others searching for information regarding the Goffinet's from Wayne County. Jane, your Grandfather (Arthur Goffinet) was my Great-Uncle. His oldest brother was my Grandfather (Alpheus Goffinet). Here's my understanding of the family history. This Goffinet line originated in Belgium (hence the connection for Anita). At some point, some of that family moved to Belfort, France, which is where our Great-Grandfather (August Charles/ or Charles August) was born. In 1880-81, August Goffinet relocated to Wayne County where other Goffinet's had moved previously (Possibly including Anita's Great Grandfather). August settled in the French Settlement on Route 604 near Rittman, near where the present St. Anne Cemetery is located. After being in Wayne County for a short while, he learned that his girlfriend/fiance (Mary Marie Lamblin) had a child (Alpheus). August returned to France and married Mary Marie Lamblin (our Great Grandmother)and then August (he was called Gus) returned to Wayne County with his wife and son. Within a few years after arriving in Wayne County, they had their second son, who was Arthur, your Grandfather. After Arthur came Augusta (our Great-Aunt Gustie), Armand, Alice, and Albert. August had a brother, Jules, who later moved from Wayne County to Washington. (He may have had other siblings, but Jules is the only one I remember). Jane, you're also correct about burials. Our Great-Grandparents, August and Marie, are buried at St. Anne Cemetery, along with three of their children (Arthur, your Grandfather), Aunt Gustie, and Aunt Alice. My Grandafather (Alpheus), and Uncle Armand are burried in Rittman Cemetery. I am not sure where Uncle Albert is buried). The original Goffinet Farmhouse is still standing about 1/4 mile south of St. Anne Cemetery on Rt. 604.

The person who probably has the most accurate geneological information is my cousin Barbara who lives in San Antonio, TX. She has done extensive searching and has traveled to France and has met current living cousins still residing in Belgium and France. I can get you in touch with her if you email me at [jrrohrer@aol.com]. I now live in Indianapolis. By the way, I'm pretty sure that I have some pictures of the Goffinet siblings, including Uncle Arthur when he was young. Contact me and I'll send you copies.
