Hi John,
I am the administrator for the Goff-Gough Surname DNA Study, which is seeking to clarify how various Gough/Goff (and variants) are related. Earlier this week, a descendant of John Goffe 1678-1748 signed up for the Goff-Gough Surname DNA Study. You may see his lineage on the far right hand side of the page at
http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/DNAchartUnplacedGofffamili.... I'm not clear on whether you have a paper trail to John Goffe d 1748. If so, I would be interested in your lineage as we need at least two distantly related participants to match on the DNA markers to confirm a lineage. If you don't have a paper trail to John Goffe, the DNA study may help you prove that you are from this family.
The Goff-Gough Surname DNA Study includes over 40 Gough/Goff males. To date, we have connected 11 Goff, Gough and Gawf lineages into four major families through matching of the Y-chromosome. These 11 families previously had no knowledge that they shared a common Goff/Gough/Gawf ancestor. The DNA Study has proven that the Gough, Goff and Gawf names are used interchangably. Results of the Goff-Gough Surname DNA Study are posted at
http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/DNAresults.htm. Details on how to sign up are at
http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/GoffDNA.htm.
The Goff-Gough Surname DNA Study will show if you share a common ancestor with the other Gough/Goff families in the study. About one or two men join the study each month, so the families against which you are compared is growing. I hope you will consider joining the Goff-Gough Surname DNA Study. Thanks,
Phillip Goff
